Sandy Petersen ran a RuneQuest campaign in college with Lovecraft monsters and he included them in Gateway Bestiary, his first work for Chaosium.[1] For that reason Gateway Bestiary is sometimes considered to be part of the Call of Cthulhu canon. Gateway, in early RuneQuest parlance, refers to material not set in the Glorantha universe.
