Different in appearance and style to any DCC product released until this point, The Adventure Begins was a hardback, book-sized compilation containing 20 short beginning D&D adventures of only a few pages each. Emphasis for each adventure was on a unusual or non-standard setting to start a campaign or new adventuring party.

Two of the adventures herein, Tower of the Black Pearl and The Golden Auroch, were converted to 1st edition AD&D, reprinted in "flip book" form, and released by Goodman Games at Gencon Indy 2008. This compilation was also later available commercially online through Noble Knight Games.
