According to Heroic Worlds¹, En Garde! was the first ever RPG in the pirates and swashbucklers genre. The first print was released in 1975, with a 2nd Edition put out in 1977. The game was re-printed with updates and new artwork by The Small Furry Creatures Press in the UK in 1988.
