Space Opera is a generic SciFi RPG developed by Fantasy Games Unlimited, and written by Edward E. Simbalist, A. Mark Ratner and Phil McGregor. It is a complex system that bears some similarity to Traveller, although it never gained the same level of popularity. It shares its name with a sub-genre of Science Fiction, that denotes space adventure and melodrama.
There are three versions of the core rules: a blue boxed set, a black boxed set and a more recent softcover compendium edition. Ten official adventures were released, three sets of deck plans, one additional supplement (Ground and Air Equipment) and a series of 7 Star Sector Atlases. Note: the Star Sector Atlases are numbered 1 to 3, 5 and 11 to12. There are no numbers 4 and 6 to 10
