About:SkyRealms of Jorune

From The Acaeum Wiki

SkyRealms of Jorune is a role playing game that combines science fiction and fantasy themes. According to http://www.jorune.org, the author, Andrew Leker originally came up with the idea as part of a high school assignment. It was developed into a fully fledged game in the years that followed.

The setting is an alien world colonized by humans - but who subsequently lose contact with the rest of humanity and evolve and change over millenia. Prior to human arrival, there were a number of native sentient species including: the Shantha, Ramian, Thriddle and Cleash. The human arrival culminated in wars that all but wipe out the Human and original Races. In the years that follow a surviving bio-engineer, Iscin, creates additional races: the Blount, Crugar, the Woffen, the Bronth and Tologra.

The era in which the game is set is more than 3,000 years after these initial events. After so much time, the humans, bio-engineered creatures and native inhabitants have evolved and re-developed complex societies. With a rich history (see http://www.jorune.org/history), interesting races and societies, very original magic system - Isho, and mixture of medieval weaponry and ancient artifacts based on advanced, but lost, technology, the role-playing experience is a unique one.

The world itself is beautifully realised. The SkyRealms are large floating rock islands held aloft by the mysterious crystals in the planet's crust.

The game's originality and the beautiful artwork of Miles Teves make the game a significant one in the history of role playing games. SkyRealms of Jorune has maintained a fan base to the present day. The early prints, special releases and fanzines are very rare and highly sought after.
