The Lankhmar setting is based on the Fafhrd and Grey Mouser novels written by Fritz Leiber. Lankhmar is the largest city on Leiber's world of Nehwon, a city rife with corruption and competing Guilds and factions, one of which is the Thieves' Guild.
Lankhmar: City of Adventure was first released in 1985 for 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Two modules Swords of the Undercity and Swords of Deceit were also released at this time. The remaining adventures and supplements were released after the transition to 2nd Edition AD&D. Lankhmar: City of Adventure was re-released in 1993 with a 2nd edition logo.
TSR also produced a boardgame based on Lankhmar in 1976.
