The revised book covers the myriad shops, taverns, inns, temples, and barracks of the classic City-State plus 4 dungeon levels under the City and 5 levels of Sunstone Caverns.  Also shown in all its Dwarven glory is Thunderhold, one of the northern allies of the Overlord with Judge and Player Maps for it too.  Incredibly detailed right down to the statistics and character of each barmaid and the latest rumor she has heard.  The large maps depict the great walled city, while the smaller maps depict Thunderhold (Judge/Player).

The huge maps are printed on white paper depicting the city and Thunderhold, while the six maps (three Judge, three Player) are: Campaign Map 1: City State of Invincible Overlord, Campaign Map 2: Barbarian Atlantis / Campaign Map 3: Valley of Ancients and Campaign Map 4: Tarantis / Campaign Map 5: Valon.
 


Printing Information


The first three printings do not count the front cover as page one in the numbering of the book's pages.  However, the front and back covers are counted with regard to the covers stating "Big Eighty-Four Page Guide".

  • 1st Printing (1978):  Cover has brown/grayish background with red lettering that comes with a JG item list that lists no releases after Village Book I.  "Created and Approved for use with Dungeons & Dragons" and "Official Judges Guild Fantasy Game Aid" on the cover along with a large "$8.00" centered at the bottom of the cover.  Product list is titled "Booty List" with the highest number being 59.
     

  • 2nd Printing (1979):  Cover has a glossy gray background with red lettering.  "Created and Approved for use with Dungeons & Dragons" and "Official Judges Guild Fantasy Game Aid" on the cover along with a large "$8.00" centered at the bottom of the cover.  Thanks to Jeff Miller for the scan.  Product list is titled "Other Great Fantasy" with the highest number being 97.
     

  • 3rd Printing (1980): Cover has gray background with red lettering.  "Official Playing Aid Approved for Dungeons & Dragons" on the cover.  Item number and price in small box at bottom left corner.  Thanks to John Pleveich for the scan.  Product list is titled "Treasure Vault" with the highest number being 240.
     

  • 4th Printing (1980): Cover matches the 3rd print.  Thanks to Marshall C. Mahurin III for help with this info.  Product list is titled "Treasure Vault" with the highest number being 430.
     

  • 5th Printing (1981):  Cover has red background with white lettering.  "Official Playing Aid Approved for Dungeons & Dragons" on the cover.  96 pages with small item number and price at bottom left corner.  6th edition is stated on the first page.  This printing includes the judges Thunderhold and Sunstone cavern map in the center of the book and a colored players Thunderhold on the back cover.  Thanks to Brian McKee for help with this info.  Product list is titled "Treasure Vault" with the highest number being 560 (w Pegasus).
     

  • 6th Printing (1981):  Cover has red background with white lettering.  "Official Playing Aid Approved for Dungeons & Dragons" on the cover.  96 pages with small item number and price at bottom left corner.  6th edition is stated on the first page.  This printing includes the judges Thunderhold and Sunstone cavern map in the center of the book and a colored players Thunderhold on the back cover.  Product list is titled "Treasure Vault" with the highest number being 710.
     

  • 7th Printing (1983):  Cover has red background with white lettering.  "Official Playing Aid Approved for" on the cover along with the Sphinx logo stating "Universal Fantasy Supplement".  96 pages with small item number and price at bottom right corner along with a second "Judges Guild".  Identical to the 6th in all other aspects.  Product list is titled "Treasure Vault" with the highest number being 1180.
     
  • 8th Printing (1999):  This is a reprint of the 5th - 7th printing with a blue background and angled scroll on cover and given an item code of 1600 in Pegasus 14.  All maps and artwork are in black and white.  Note: This is not City State - Collector's Edition UFS as that was never released.  Product list is titled "Booty List" with the highest number being 1700.

This was originally released as #12 City State of the Invincible Overlord Playing Aid.  This has been update to the d20 format from Necromancer Games found here.
