The art was rendered in
india ink over a blue pencil under drawing with additional application
of an adhesive-backed graphic film and rub-on transfer letters.
The piece is undated. The image was created to accompany the
Blaps, a Dungeons & Dragons monster created by the artist's friend from
college, Tom Johnson (noted in blue pencil). The illustration
appeared in the Monster Matrix section of The Dungeoneer #10 (vol. 3,
No. 2) on page 34. The piece is also technically "unsigned."
During this time the artist experimented with "signing" his works with
his initials, often applied with rub-on press type. This is one of
those pieces.
Condition: The paper though artist grade, appears to have tanned
somewhat with age. There are several staple holes at the top of
the art, likely the result of handling by the printer. Some
handling dirt on the back and the annotation "J-34" which was apparently
Judges Guild's inventory number for the piece (most of my returned
Judges Guild works have similar annotations). The press type for
the artist's initials are partially worn away. The texture film
used to tone the back wall of this piece is in surprisingly stable with
no visible shrinkage or wear. |
