I think it is just as likely the printer came up a little short on the cover paper during the first print run and ended up printing a few book threes with the closest thing they could find. Remember, nobody really knew what this was going to become. TSR was a little shoestring operation.

So you think the odd book threes are a subset of the rest of the first printing?

Absolutely. Like I said, I could see if ONE 1st print set had a substitute, but not 2. And lest ye forget, the only difference in the booklets is the cover. The 3rd booklet in all other ways conforms to a 1st printing, right? If it was a 2nd or 3rd, it would be dated so.
So,
IMHO
, Stormie's set is worth a bit more than a "regualr" 1st print. I dunno about $2,300.......

I agree, I think these odd 1st print book 3's have greater value.

I'd just like to point out to everyone invloved that harami2000 still won the item. But we cost him over $250 more. That's not very nice. Shame on us.
Congratulations to harami2000 all the same. It's still the item I would want over all other D&D collectables.

Is it a photocopy or an original? I already have a minty one, so I don't really need it. ANd unlike some other members "ahem", I won't bid on it hoping to win it cheap and thereby jacking up the price unnecessarily.

BTW
, just a personal opinion, but if it were me, I'd be charging harami the original price you offered the books to him for.

Now that the auction is over, you are free to do whatever you want. eBay already raped, err, I mean got their money, so if you sell it for a penny they don't give a crap.
