It's beyond crazy how many people are clueless about the value of that book.

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I had a chance to check out some of the local game stores.  One of them had two copies on the shelf, with just completely eroded spines, much of the case wrap gone and could barely be called a book.

Neither were 1st or 2nd prints, and they wanted $50 and $60 for the two books.

Insane.

was one of those places in Vegas called Action Comics & Games? I remember going there one time and they had prices for 1e modules for a min of $25 apiece up to maybe $40 -- and pretty much everything was beat to hell

I tried that too once, no fun.

I find small to medium size cities have *much* more interesting game stores.  Lots of old stock that hasn't been picked over many many times.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

You guessed it!

When I first walked in, I was pretty impressed - the vast majority of game stores in the Vegas area seemed to carry RPGs as an afterthought - usually only a token offering of whatever is currently in distribution, and even then, only the "big name" stuff, like D&D and Pathfinder.  If those shops have anything old/OOP, it's something from those lines that didn't sell when they ordered it.

Action had a reasonably large selection of used/OOP stuff, but, yeah, the prices were ridiculous for mint condition, let alone the "we found this in the river and let the dog chew on it for a while before we priced it and put it on the shelf" condition stuff they were trying to sell.

I had a decent experience with this in Atlanta a few years ago, but, in general, I'd have to agree.

In fact, both Las Vegas and Atlanta, the better stuff was outside of the immediate city, and in the neighboring townships of the metro area.

I really think something like that is the result of an auto-pricer running amok - if someone else posted one for a reasonable price, I believe those listings would drop significantly.

Hehe.  I've had over a dozen copies of the unexpurgated D&DG, sold all but a couple of them, never for more than $45 a copy.  Factored for inflation that's not much more than cover price.

They're NOT RARE, PEOPLE.

Ouch.  Nevermind that there's a new-in-shrink on eBay for $150 (not saying that's a great price, either), but, offering the BCI release of that for a premium, and then say:

Due to the nature of used and PV products; booklet inserts, digital content and manuals are not guaranteed in our used video games, used movies and CDs.

??

If it doesn't have the inserts, it's worthless.

It's just not specifically stated whether it is the buyer or the seller that is doing the stealing at that price
;-P

I might... on a really good day... get 6K for my 3.5 collection (which also includes the 3.5 leather books, and the Alpha and Beta test books as well..).

Did I mention it's miserably cold outside in Chicago right now...?

184 items (count probably includes the soft-cover books and magazines) even at $20/item is generous.

RPG’s, D&D in particular has had a major influence in my life. It’s bonded me together with life long friends...it’s that bond in life not just as friends, but in our jokes, our mannerisms, and what we find funny. Invincible Overlord
