This is so obviously a shill auction that my 3 year old would laugh if I showed him.

Yeah, especially as there's one with a starting bid of $0.99 on now...

You gotta be kidding me.  Sure, it's signed and all.  Either that or I really shouldn't have tossed the mint one I had a few years back... 8O

Were all of these signed?  I have one in the shrinkwrap and it's still signed.  I think they shipped them signed.  And doesn't this item usually go for $9 anyway?

Looking at the bid history, you can see that endzone04 pumped tosattearp all the way to $105.  Without endzone04, the item would have sold for about $7.

As far as I know, they are all signed. Mine is, and I've never seen one that wasn't.

It's very possible that I'm suffering from fuzzy memory, but I don't think mine was signed.  I picked it up cheap (~$5) several years back, and sold it cheaper when I needed rent money.

We have two copies, one signed & one not. They show up on Ebay fairly often.

WD #1 : $111 for a "Good" copy.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5915979105

More than starting to push credibility price-wise, IMHO. (*desists from saying "crazy"*).

"Good", not "Excellent", or "Mint"... Heh... If my eyes don't decieve me, this one's possibly a bit grubby, edgeworn, slightly wrinkled, corner creased/worn, etc...
Does it pay for a seller not to provide too large/good an illustrative pic? ;)
*
Personally, given a choice between that copy and my "second run" copy which is laminated and thus A1-crispy-mint in appearance, I'd stick with mine despite what a purist collector's grading schema might indicate.

=

Well; hopefully my copy of Wyrm's Footnotes #1 from the same vendor will prove to be better! (n.b. "Excellent", not "Good").
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5915375172
(and certainly much better value for money, I think, despite "pushing out the boat", yet again... Was never gonna be "cheap" and has been on my "wish list" for a long, long, long time).

-- And I could buy "hundreds" of "other" White Dwarfs for that kinda money. *lol*.

More White Dwarves just completed.
Much better than the above copy of #1, but even more serious prices and competition.  Still just a "little bit" crazy, IMHO.
(Looks like WD has almost got The Dragon beat on price, just now ;))

(Gradings are my guesses, only)

#1 (NM): $164 (*six* last-minute snipe bids!)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917221551

#2 (VG-EX? waterstain?): $56
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917220902

#3 (NM): $39 - that's your (relative) bargain, Michael.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917220643

#4 (NM): $83
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917220326

#5 (NM): $74 - still an "interesting" cover, even in 2004...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917218964

#6 (NM): $42
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917219890

#7 (G+?): $30 *cough* torn cover
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917219577

#8 (M): $30
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917219189

#9 (VG+?): $44 - Michael, are you sure you read the condition?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917220102

#10 (M): $41
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917218758

#11 (NM): $30
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917218296

(and whilst on WD; this one is crazy!)

#72 "Talisman Expansion In White Dwarf No.72 / 1985 RAR(E?)"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5916234116

$40 & sold...  8O

(would they have paid more if it wasn't for that crease, I wonder?)

I picked up one of these at the Half Price books the other day, and looked up the price this afternoon to see about what I should list it at...imagine my surprise:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

I feel embarrassed charging anything close to this.  I realize it's hard to find, but this hard?  There are no other sales in the last 30 days, is this an accurate price or just a case where two guys got into a bidding war?

C'mon they can't be serious. It can't be THAT rare, not even closely. A true candidate for the silliest auction price of the year.

PS: We should name a few nominees and run a poll for the silliest auction price.

No , it is true that I rushed those last night ... however in my defence I never expected them to have that much interest.  When the bids were set the prices were far more reasonable eg around GBP$5.  At least I didn't go for #1 at GBP$91.

I see you were spending big last night as well...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 00415&rd=1

The heavy use and occassional coffee stain on that one worried me a little.

Possibly a better copy than my better one. But still very heavy money, IMHO.

Hey, we've both been stung a bit recently, no?

*nods*. Me, too... but I was looking for a set for my brother after the browsing and later oblique references I got when he was here, last.
Had originally set £125ish limit, but upped that by £20 when I got a near-perfect mesh with other recent "bulk purchases" from #37 upwards, and this morning by another £30 when I found out I'd been burnt badly by another auction. Came in right on the limit, and was probably somewhat OTT, IMHO. [ed: two other last-minute snipes within £20-odd helps, though]

(However, after seeing the latest prices, perhaps not too bad compared with purchase on an issue-by-issue basis; even with the stated condition disclaimers! Will see...).

Hey; and no comment from yourself on:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5916531510 , then? (aside from "Arrgh!" -- and likewise here).

OK, Michael,
These WDs should cheer us both up, anyhow... Auctions are still live and already the prices are kinda crazy.

#9 (VG at best): $32, 2 bids and 5 days 22 hours to go!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5918485408

#10 (VG-, possibly toned paper, too): $34, 2 bids and likewise 5 days 22 hours to go!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5918485922

#115!!: $24, 2 bids and 4 days 21 hours to go
"WHITE DWARF 115 - RARE TALISMAN CARDS BY GAMES WORKSHOP"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5918252621
(This one I gotta watch)

===

And the silliest price of all, IMHO...

Almost $11 for 103 issues of WD. Sheesh, that's at least $10 too much. *lol*.

Now that sounds like an amusing idea.
(Although unfortunately I'm on the "nominations list" at least once, I suspect).

Any booby prizes for the "lucky" winners?
