Any ideas on whether or not the Castles & Crusades White Box is worth more or less than its' original RRP, and how much they originally sold for?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

$30 was the retail, and valuewise, not much appreciation in value unless it's one of the "Spartan 300" (signed copies).

Even the signed Spartan 300 don't sell for much more than cover price.

Agreed.  There's just not all that much demand for them.  I haven't really tracked muck of anything for the last 6 months or so, but from what I could tell before the signed ones were lucky to even break $60.  In the ppast couple of years, I've personally sold 2 of them and I think one went for $35 and the other went for like $60 or so.

It was the original C&C rules set. Three books digest size in a white box. The first company to actually do the white box rule ste thing as homage to to TSR's original. Unlike some of the cheaper ripoffs of recent years, thes are actually white boxes, and not just a coloured box with "This is a white box" writton on it. I think there's a black and green copycat rulesey out there in a black and green 'white box'. The writers appear to think 'white' is actually the box size meaning 'digest size'. Go figure.

Incidentally, that Mechanoid thing never did turn up. Figure it went missing when the AH London Posties went on strike.

   Not at all Ian.  It is still here!  A fact for which I can only humbly apologise as I am clearly the worlds worst and laziest poster.   8O   I have a pile of sales to post on Monday - so I can send it off to your local Edinburgh posties then...

As stated above:

The C&C White Box Set includes 3 digest sized booklets, single sheet (Product insert) and a small zip lock bag with a crayon and SIX dice (they look like the OD&D Dice; 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 sided).
I think the first 300 White Box Sets were signed and numbered and perhaps SWed too.

My set had none of those bonus features… as it was not one of the original limited run of 300, it was not signed, not numbered, not SWed.

Vol. 1: Player's Handbook: 36 numbered pages; offers C&C rules and information for PCs to Level 10 only, with Cleric and Magic Spells to Level 6.

Vol. 2: Monster's & Treasure: 36 numbered pages with 17 pages of monster descriptions and the rest rules for various things that a Castle Keeper (CK/DM/GM) would need to run the adventure.

Vol. 3: This book includes 20 numbered pages with an introductory Adventure (The Rising Knight, adventure module A0, Vol. 3).

I ran that adventure for my grandkids and I highly recommend it to anyone, big or small, young or old, players or CKs (Castle Keepers).
It is a very good starter adventure for the C&C game.

The same White Box Sets are still available at TLG for $29.95, plus $10.50 Shipping (USA).

The C&C Collector's Box includes:
1 Players Handbook (5x5 x 8x5)
1 Monsters and Treasure guide (5x5 x 8x5)
1 adventure, The Rising Knight (5x5 x 8x5)
1 set of Zocchi dice (old school, YEAH BABY)
1 crayon
1 err, box (6x9)
1 product insert

You can also get A0-The Rising Knight separately as a free PDF download from the TLG Web Site.
(Along with a few other free C&C downloads, there and at RPGNOW)

IMO: this box set is MUCH better built than MANY other boxes that have come out lately.
Other than the design on the box top and the color of the book covers; This one truly does remind me of the OD&D White Box Sets.

Yeah. The free PDF is well worth adding to your collection and it can be run in D&D with a little adjustment. I guess T&T kinda set the price on these then if they are sitting on copies.

Spartan 300s weren't shrinkwrapped. I can verify this as I have one (#45/300).

Another note -- not all of the Spartan 300 have the same signatures. They should all have some in common (like Steve, Peter, etc) but some also have Gary Gygax or me. Only three "came" with the box, and those were not mine or Gary's....

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

I've got #55 and it has 4 signatures: Mac, Davis, Steve and Peter I think.  I should bring it by to get you to sign it too.

The C&C Quickstart Rules (Free RPG Day) have a suspicious resemblance to the Holmes-era basic D&D book.

Yes, it does.

NEWSFLASH!

Since the first White Box Set I got a few years ago has been well used I decided to get another one for collecting purposes only.
I just got that new White Box Set from TLG and it came with Shrink Wrap.

And yes, the Set was purchased at and shipped directly from the Troll Lord Games web site.

Read my post again. Spartan 300s didn't come shrinkwrapped. I said nothing about unsigned copies.
