So it's a little bit dusty, but I pulled this out of my storage closet. Anyone seen one of these around in a while?

I got this back in, I think 1984 or 85, from a craft store (kind of like a smaller version of Michael's or JoAnne's Fabrics) that was going out of business in Tucson, AZ. They were one of those stores that started selling some D&D stuff when it became a hot commodity...not a lot, but just one or two displays worth. They had gone through the motions of discounting the store up through 70 or 80%, and I asked if I could snag the display since I was buying the last of the modules.

Never seen one before, period. But then, there are a lot of items I have seen for the first time in the last year or so.

Probably not too many of those around and I can think of a couple people that might be interested.  But in general, these things often go unnoticed and not for a lot of cash - especially the cardboard ones.

The ones made out of metal and wood and glass still maintain a fair bit of value for their usefulness as a rack or shelving unit.  There is a store over here that has a TSR spin rack with metal display shelves but he basically wants $300 for it (the cost of buying a similar rack).

I was tempted by this one not too long ago.  It didn't get any  bids in the open auction with a start of $15 and then lasted 29 days as a BIN:

Very cool. I haven't seen that before. Thanks for posting the pics. I always enjoy the design of products from the Face logo-era.

Is dragon artwork by Roslof? Anybody know if appears on any other products? Misterspock, if you get a chance, could you take a pic of the side of case showing the dragon straight on?

I had a similar sized TSR display box but with different artwork, and it fetched about $45 on eBay.

There used to be a comic shop in New Milford, CT called F&S Comics that had the same one... I bought a copy of Blackmoor off of it around 1986...

Here's the side view of it

I'm not sure who's artwork it is, though.

Just curious, do you remember what the artwork looked like?

I'm betting Roslof did the art for this one... Hey Spock... would you like to sell it to me? ;)

Thanks for the excellent large photo, misterspock!

I think the dragon is slightly reminiscent of the one on the Dragon Dice, which is clearly by Roslof:

It was orange and had a dungeon/castle gate on it, no dragons.

Ok

I am the "idiot" that paid the $382.00 for this MIB TSR Display with a shrink copy of the game.

Here is what it looks like assembled, and I added another shrink wrapped version to it....

This will look awesome at the Con with some various "old school" stuff sitting on it for sale :)

Here is the box it came in, and a close up of the date on the box... looks like 1980, so not sure the actual year this was used

Very nice  8) .

Does anyone know if there was ever a freestanding floor version of this display? I've seen the Holmes Basic cardboard display featured in the print ad with EGG's daughter, but was wondering if there was B/X or AD&D floor display from 1980 - 1983ish similar to the one pictured above. I seem to recall one (and would love to have one), but I'm far from certain.
