Okay,

I'm wondering... how much I should be spending to acquire these two books?

D&D Rules Cyclopedia ->
Creature Catalog [DMR2] ->

As an aside, how rare are the Challenger modules (i.e The Knight of Newt, The Rage of the Rakasta, etc.)?

Rules Cyclopedia is one of the best books out there.  If its in good shape, a copy for $25-$30 is a good price.  On Ebay they can go for more than that in the $40 - $50 range.

Creature Catalog is a run of mill item that I probably wouldn't spend more than $5-$10 on.

The Challenger series modules are all pretty common - not very difficult to find these in shrink.  Probably $12-$15 each max.

Yeah, I discovered that the Rules Cyclopedia is going to cost me quite a bit if I try to get it on eBay.

This one just sold for $38 US...

What about the Wrath of the Immortals boxed set?

Wrath of the Immortals is another boxed set that does fairly well.  I would guess $25-$30 on Ebay anyway.

I really, really suggest you check the AC9 Creature Catalogue from TSR UK too. It's a great, great book! Not 100% compatible with the great RC (it's quite older...), but worthy of every cent!  8)

I recently sold two RCs. One went for $26 and the other sold for $41. Basically in same condition.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

The Rules Cyclopedia seems to fluctuate in price quite dramatically. Sometimes it will be relatively low ($20 - 40) and others, it will skyrocket ($80+) so, its always best to look at how many are currently up, and also look for them in lots... they show up pretty commonly.

About three months ago I picked up a RC in great condition from Half Price Books for $30. So that would fall in line with getting one from eBay for $24-26 + shipping.

Bad HPB!  It should have been closer to $10 - $15.

Well, I've recently picked up a second (worse condition = playing copy) for $12, so my average price for RCs is now $21. If I can snag a third copy on the cheap, then I'll be better able to sleep at night ;)
