So what's the likelihood that this is a true printing/compiling variant vs. someone with a copy that has a newer cover and an older booklet?

I'm not trying to impune the seller's honor, it just seems likely to me that this isn't terribly rare since many TSR items were hand-assembled back in the day....

The cover is a 1+ (or 2-) as it has the sunburst, but no printing information.

As for the rest: The seller is a confirmed shill bidder, so his integrity is severly damaged. Anything is possible.

... and now it seems he's registered with the Acaeum forum, so why not comment on the rangifertarandus / kipironbeard situation?

Damn shill bidders!

Well.. a couple of things here....

I could make a hybrid by having a 1st printing cover and 2nd module and call it 'ultra rare' when really, it's just a re-assembled  module from 2 different printings.  If it was 'shrink' then .. maybe.. but HOW would you know? (cuz you couldn't see the inside). Kinda seems dishonest to list it as if that's the way it came out of the pack.

Yeah, well.. welcome to the forum rangifertarandus... you got some 'splainin' to do!

Well, first off, a second through fifth print has the starburst, so that fact hardly makes it a first/second hybrid. The second and third have their printing information on the cover. The print in question does not have any printing information on the cover.

However, the fourth and fifth print do not have any printing information on the cover. The fifth print has an isbn on the front and just because the seller fails to mention it, it could very well have an isbn on the back...which would make this a run of the mill fourth print (a copy of which I have in my hand at the moment).

It's a fourth print, from the scans and his description.  So no outright deception -- probably just got confused.  I think maybe I need to put up some more scans of the different D-prints.
