Pretty sure this was my first post here :)

Reading through some old Space Gamers today - back when Steve Jackson took over the publishing, the mag took a turn towards covering the business of the gaming industry, with representation across fantasy, sci-fi, and wargaming interests.  I found a magazine survey put out to the trade with their self-reported circulations.  I figured I'd share, makes for a pretty interesting snapshot of the hobby magazines at the time.

From TSG # 29, July 1980 (so the survey probably relates to operations a few months prior)

Ares Magazine - 9,000
Different Worlds - 2,500
The Dragon - 16,500
Dungeoneer/Judges Guild Journal - did not report
Flying Buffalo Quarterly - 2,000
The General - "Not allowed to divulge' :)
Gryphon - #1 just being released, not yet printed
Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society - 4,500
Pursue & Destroy - 1,350
Signal - 200
Sorcerer's Apprentice - 1,600
The Space Gamer - 6,000
White Dwarf - 10,500

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

Note how closely WD was following behind The Dragon. Over here, we also had the more general Games & Puzzles which still had a circulation of around 30,000 but was about to hit a brick wall...

7.4 TAKING THE GAME SERIOUSLY: Don't"
