I was perusing some old Fire & Movement magazines when I noticed some advertisements mentioning this book. Has anybody ever seen it? How is it?

Short. 31pp, heavy on illustrations. It shipped in quite a few games in the era (I got mine from an anniversary reissue of Tactics II). The most valuable part is some choice commentary from Roberts and Shaw (Shaw's first meeting with Dunnigan is especially entertaining, in light of the versions told on the S&T side).

Certainly it's a credible guide for collectors - good dates, product mug-shots, some serial number data and sales figures. Intriguingly, it also mentions a more authoritative "Avalon Hill GENERAL Index and Company History" covering 1952-1980, which is described as "a far more complete presentation than is given in this anniversary book." Now that I'd like to see. It was apparently available only by special order and for cost.

I've got one of those ... bought it from our own BadMike, in fact. The index part is fine (if perhaps a little bit difficult to read), but boardgame fanatics would enjoy the fairly detailed company history, which is related pretty much in straight chronological order.
