Any opinions of the value of this item? Even after reading the Acaeum grading article I am still not 100% sure what grade this falls under.
I used it for several years until switching to second edition rules. The errata sheet is still inside the front cover, but all of the errate entries are lightly penciled into the appropriate places throughout the book.
The only other writing is my name on the flyleaf.

I was thinking along the lines that a case could be made for "Good" as it states.

I think it would be a stretch to call it a good. That book is really used well. It may be solid but the overall use makes it drop a grade.

It is a fair.

Games can get you through times of no money but money can not get you through times of no games!!

I have to disagree. I would grade it as Good.

The stitching/spine look pretty intact from the photos, and I think that's important for hardcovers. (If the stitching/spine was loose, I'd go with Fair as well.)

In any event, I'd recommend not listing a grade at all if you're putting this on eBay. Describe all the markings and let the pictures do the talking, instead. Listing precise grades below VG never helps, because nobody is looking for a "Fair" 1st printing...

fair-good probably. is the dark cover staining only dirt?

nobody is looking for a "Fair" 1st printing... will buy for the errata sheet instead

The dark staining (skin oils probably) is just from a few years of handling, many times per week and being in a 20 pound bag of game books and binders. It is not mold or mildew and there is no odor.

In the early 80's I worked nights from midnight to 8 AM so I always had evenings free to drop into a gaming session and either play or run (we had a regular group of about 8-12 people).

I like the "cherished" line, how about the ones that used car dealers are using "experienced" or "pre-owned"... :lol:

I just compared my scanned picture to the one listed under Monster Manual on Acaeum and they are identical.

Was there another one issued with errata for Vampires? Perhaps that was when the errata was printed in the Dragon (can't remember which issue).

When was the errata sheet produced? The vampire wasn't corrected until after the 3rd printing, IIRC. The troll was corrected after the 1st, but it isn't mentioned, either.

This is very true. But nobody is looking to buy something described as Good when it really Fair.

Just avoid the terms and describe the imperfections exactly. Leave it up to the buyer to decide what the condition is.

A first print generally gets the benefit of the doubt because of its scarcity. People will pay more just to have it, even if it is damaged. Just hype the first printing Lizard Logo and errata sheet.

I've got a copy of this (which my brother had originally) and it looks in better condition than the one shown here. Are these worth anything anymore, because I have a near mint (as I would see it) of the Fiend Folio hardback as well.

Would be interested to hear what they are worth really... Thanks in advance!

What is the errata sheet, and was it originally included with the 1st print MM? I've read the research section here, but for some reason haven't been able to determine whether it was actually included with the 1st print book.

I've got two minty copies of 1st print MMs, but neither has the errata sheet. Is it something that was copied from a Dragon issue?

Ah, attention to detail...(clearly not a collector myself).

Mine is a 1978 3rd edition paperback with no errata listings. That probably blows its value out of the water

I got the same errata sheet with my 1st print MM too. I think it shows up with 1st prints that were probably sold at the end of the run.
