It was posted on the RPG Marketplace that Lost Tamochan just slipped by for $5. I do not know if there is much credibility to the account but that would get my vote for Most Thrifty purchase. Someone picked up Inverness last January on ebay for something like $350 in excellent condition. I have picked up minor bargains here and there but no super scores.  Anyone else know of any credible thrifty purchases of super rares?  Adam

I'm sure many collectors have had great bargains. Back in 1995/96 people were getting unbelievable deals on the Newsgroup. I've heard of someone getting a ST1 for $50+, Dwarven Glorys for $50, etc. Those oldies were lucky to get them then! Now with the advent of ebay, etc many of these things go for waayyyy much more. Very hard to score super bargains now.  I should also say that much of the very rare stuff is in the hands of collectors now. You name an item and most of the accounted items are in collectors hands. Occasionally a non collector might have something very rare for sale on ebay but in my opinion, as everyday passes fewer and fewer super rares will turn up for sale from a non collector. Its most likely going to be collectors who will have most of the super rares for sale, etc.

It would seem as though the $5 Tamoachan is a reality. I personally would like to see that peasashyte confirm its existence with a scan. This stuff is clearly still floating around in people's closets who have no idea they are valuable. I would have give that seller $20 easily.   Adam

Hi Adam I know Peasashyte so he is keeping me updated on the lost tamoachan. Lets hope its a real one! If it is, I'll be really happy for him.  Don't get all sad and all. There are more items and hey you might get lucky and score something great for a low prices. Don't fret.  Send me a email back when you get the chance too! :-)

I bought a first print MM at Gencon UK last year, from another dealer, on the 2nd day of the convention, for £10  Issues 1-6 of Dragon, plus issues 1-7 of s&t, on ebay last year for just over £100.00.  R1, 2, 3, 4 & RPGA 3, 4 for £100 off a dealer 2 years ago.   Cheers, Malcolm

Those indeed are great prices Lawrenson. Looks like deals can be had if one looks hard enough. I think currently great deals will be few and far between.

If what you have posted is true then that is a wonderful purchase. Is there a chance someone here can verify what nn has said?

The Dragons were all just short of near mint, the s&t a bit less.  The RPGA modules were all ex+ and one was shrinkwrapped.  The MM was excellent. I was VERY surprised to get this, as they are very rare in the UK.  Cheers, Malcolm

One of my thrify purhcases was a First Quest Music Album I bought on ebay for $10. I thought that was a very good price as I haven't seen any pop up on ebay at all since.

First Quest Album: Did you find it in the music section or roleplaying section.

The First Quest Album was found in the role playing section! Quite a surprise for me to see noone bid on it. I believe most people most likely thought it was the First Quest cd box set.  Its a cool item I guess you can say. Though it rarely shows up for auction I have heard from one collector that a ton of them were found still in the shrinkwrap some time ago. Were they are I am not sure but whoever has them is making quite sure he/she doesn't flood the market which is a very smart move. You got lucky Mkman.  I was watching that one too but got tied up and couldn't bid when the auction ended... :).  One of the more interesting pieces that I have is a NM Empire of the Petal Throne boxed set.  Not particularly well known, but nicely done.  Got it for a song!

Lucky me :-) The item is cool looking but to me not very interesting. I traded it away already :-)  Empire of the Petal Throne is very well known.....perhaps you mean not as well known as D&D.
