Does anybody know about the 2E Player Packs? These were plastic cases with miscellanous stuff. Here is an example of one: 404 Not Found

There are four of them (Fighter, Priest, Wizard, Thief) and they seem to be rare. I have no clue as to what they are worth and would like to know your opinion.

I've seen them around.  Not too sure of the value, but now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen too many for auction.  Hmm...  I actually know where there was one as of 4 months ago, and being that it was in an ultra-obscure place, its probably still there...

All they had in them was the carrying case, the class handbook/complete book of..., and a mini from what I remember.  Maybe some character sheets and some dice, but I don't remember offhand.  They were definately geared as for beginners or for something to buy somebody who wanted to get into the game.

All four packs were sold on Ebay Germany ranging from 10 to 15 € (in shrink).

Yeah, its why I never bought them.  Plus, if I remember correctly, they were like $30, and well, I catch enough flak from people for being a D&D nut, but carrying around a big dorky carrying case into a game?  My last DM did it right...  a 3 ft. long by 2 ft. wide by 2 ft. high heavy plastic tub with handles.  FILLED with books (and quite heavy).  Until he got his knees operated on, so a bunch of us ended up finding scans of everything he used (fair use, he owned it all anyways ;) ) so he could just have to carry his laptop.

I agree with you. What might the nice old lady next door think when four bearded dudes carrying cheap black plastic cases arrive simultanously and for the next couple of hours there are loud shrieks and cries like "Don't kill me!" "I'll take your head off" etc. come from this guys apartment? ...

Anyway I picked up one of those coffers out of pure curiousity. Too bad I cannot open it, for it is still shrink-wrapped  :D

By the way the seller agreed that the packs were not too popular among gamers. The TSR marketing department had some strange ideas in those years ...

Of course you can open it. It's still worthless whether it's shrinked or not!

I think I may pick them up just to see what they are......

Aaah... don't be so pessimistic. Give it some time... a couple of years... or decades ... and they'll be ultra-rare!

Exactly Ralph! If I'd only left those 10th Anniversary Combo Packs in shrink.  :(  Todays trash is tomorrows treasure.

I'd have to get one of each, so for me that would have been expensive.  Then if I liked them I'd get another copy of each to put away....

These Player Packs from Rhea's collection went for $37 to $48. This is ridiculous. An accurate sales price for these in SW would be around $15 to $20.

Agreed, they commonly go for $10.00-$15.00 in SW.  Pitttbulll doesn't seem to be patient enough to wait.

Precisely why I never bought them and doubt I ever will.  Can you imagine carrying those around in public?  What was TSR thinking?  And at the time they were terribly overpriced at $20 considering the paltry content.
