Help!!

I just purchased an "ARC" (advanced reading copy) of Master of the Game by Gygax...

This copy is stamped july 24th, 1989 and is roughly octavo sized with an insert of cover art just inside the cover. Light blue (nearly non-photo blue) cardstock cover perfect bound. Perigee books. States: uncorrected proof for limited distribution.

Was it worth $30? Any thoughts anyone? 8O

I did some checking and could find 1 copy listed online for $30. You can check it out here:

Gygax: Master of the Game: ARC - AbeBooks

As for collectors value, I'm not exactly sure.

Actually... that's the one I picked up. Don't know if it's a readily accessible item (ie, dime a dozen). Only one I've seen though!

I had a thread listed at one time concerning galley proofs of the 3.0 MM and figured that this might fit the bill as well.

Thanks for the research bite

Anyone else care to garner an opinion?  :)

i think it sounds like a really cool item, so worthy enough to collect imo, whether it has good value or not.

I know of a few people who primarily collect ARC's and uncorrected proofs. They can be interesting because sometimes they'll have things that get omitted before the actual publication.

I don't see Master of the Game or Role Playing Mastery come up too often on eBay in general (though other venues like Amazon, ABE, etc. seem to have more copies), and I don't recall ever seeing a proof on either title.  Based on that, I'd say you've got something that's at least scare, if not necessarily rare :D

As a used bookseller, I'd try and research it using the following sites:

AbeBooks Official Site - New & Used Books, Textbooks, & Rare Books (use their Advanced Search)
FetchBook - New & Used Books - Find the Lowest Price
http://www.used.addall.com

And then you can always try:

http://www.half.com
Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more<&orig=Electronics%2C+Cars%2C+Fashion%2C+Collectibles%2C+Coupons+and+More+Online+Shopping+%7C+eBay&21018697" rel="nofollow">Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles, Coupons and More Online Shopping | eBay

Or go ahead and Google it. I'd use this trick especially if it happens to have an ISBN.

I kind of expected that too, Grodog! 8) I only occasionally see the published prints too.

I used abebooks originally during a searchfest last week... but I'm banking that I need to look at the other sites Wraith mentioned in order to find a nice published copy to find out what was cut and what made it into the final print...
