Brian, if you're patient and you pick the right auction, I reckon you can still pick one up for £25.

I've seen others for much less than that... with the Cthulhu mythos on.

Is it only my impression, or the interest in Cthulhu D&Ds have dwindled somewhat recently?

Well, I see two issues here. One is the fact that it is CougarRetard. Two is the fact that the price is ridiculous.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

Yeah, all of the above... :)

Prices have been a bit lower again, recently, but is popular enough to rise out of any such dip should they fall much further.

IMHO, it isn't worth trying to twist cougar's paw to lower his price.
Even if some people have had good purchases from him, this isn't going to be one of them. I can see the price sticker remains and he has clearly trimmed the scan to show the one good edge. (*points to hints of damage at the top left, for example*).

"Mint" copies are scarce, but you should definitely be able to pick up a very fine one for £20/$35 with a little patience.
Bid low (preferably with snipes, because people /will/ bid you up, otherwise on these!) and once you've got a nice copy at a good price, keep trying for that near-mint one; unless you manage to get one of those, first!

Sometimes the mixed lots are better, too.
Draco hasn't yet mentioned how good this D&DG was, but despite being advertised here and having relatively heavy bidding, the total for the auction was only $58...
The Polys, alone, would resell for that much, I think.

FWIW, I recently tracked a bunch of these (more than 20), and they came in with an average final auction price of $43. Two of those were in really poor shape, though — throwing those out gives an average of just under $47.

I did not worry too much about detailed grading (except to note how awful the two thrashed copies were), but I did check for completeness and to make sure that the seller was, indeed, listing the correct version — you'd be surprised (or maybe not) by the number of sellers who don't get their facts straight with this item.

The high sale, BTW, was $85 (a nice copy from Draco); the low was $25 (a poorly described listing).

As always, YMMV.

Thanks for the stats. :)

Will stick by my advice to throw half-decent copies on at $50 BIN when the prices are a bit higher in the cycle.
(For those of us with a half-dozen or more going spare!).

Thanks for the kudos.

Rest assured, this one will go on my shelves for keeping. I have a few other copies that will go up eventually.  PM me before you put yours up so I can wait till they are finished.  I am grateful for the purchase.  Least I can do to reciprocate!

Nice price for a white scratch. ;)
Between that and the corner bumps, still had more than enough visual appeal not to slow down the bidding too much, anyhow! :)

(*blinks at that awkward looking user ID on the bid list*... *shrugs*. makes a change from <tonyasswapshop>, I s'pose)

Lucky find.  I picked up a 1st print in good condition in a local used bookstore for $16(US).

And, no shipping costs!
