Well, so much for my above post as it is moot now. I will say that congrats are in order to the person who placed a bid well in excess of $2000.00, because if anyone tops it, well then.......Nevermind, I was always told if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all. Also, whenever this sale is completed, would the winner please post it here so we know who it is.

I have promised that I will pass on the final sale price to the Acaeum, but I respect the wishes of who ever buys it if they wish to remain anon.

Sorry; what I said was "With due deference, I don't see a single serious buyer amongst the last few posts saying 'put it on eBay'".
Just in case it sounded more like us non-bidders were more interested in watching the spectator sport of an eBay auction.

Apologies if that came across the wrong way...

bclarkie wrote:I also can't figure out why so many buyers are so feckin concerned about the sellers fees, and no one has answered the question either. I think I addressed the highest price argument in my previous fee with
"blowing me away with an offer"

Had thought high side of $40, but was only one factor to add in.

Actually, the seller's caught me on the hop a bit in that I thought there might be a "stopping point" he had in mind, but now appears as though there's a full-blown silent auction.
(Not quite sure how "sniping" and "closing time" works in /that/ context. Final/"sealed" bids, perhaps?).

Does anyone have that full list of bidders from the last two ST1 auctions, then?
Will have another check, anyhow, just to be "fair" (since that was one driving force behind an eBay sale, no?).
And if anyone else wishes to contact the obvious high rollers who might not be here, am sure the seller would welcome that.

bclarkie wrote:As far as using the reserve price scaring bidders away or causing the non-sale of the item, I think the most recent PotVQ auction kind of settles that, because the item sold anyway IIRC. :?

The usual last minute sniping battle was replaced by a $30 nudge. It still sold: might've done better, though, without that high reserve.
Frank's Inverness which failed to reach it's reserve flopped totally. :(

i think everyone should be entitled to an opinion whether they bid or not. not that it matters really, as the seller will choose to do as he pleases, as they should.

either way of selling doesnt bother me at all - although i just feel ebay adds to all the fun and its there for all to see. can't say i am a great lover of all this private stuff....specially after all that bella fiasco stuff....

well i just hope jon gets his top $ for the ST1 and both parties are very happy with the deal.

i for one, am very open and offered the lad a cool £1000 plus travelling to his house and paying cash in hand so no hassles.

to me, that is one serious as f*ck offer. anyone who can turn around and say thats not, needs their heads seeing to :) just unfortunately there were MORE serious offers of a greater value  :D , so i am totally cool with that. i will just store that away and wait for the next one, now that Amanda has given me the "sorta" thumbs up to get one if i want it....knowing me though, something else will come along and i will get it/them instead :)

good luck to the "big bidders" and congrats to the winner, whomever it may be.

i just hope you will share it with the rest of the forum upon conclusion!

Al

Alan, if I ever find myself with two, I'll take you up on that offer. And I'll even throw in a few beers and a curry. :D

Unless of course if the market has moved onto a $3k ST1. 8O

Nahhh... no need to overestimate my resolve, or my cash reserves either. I have not cornered anything yet.
I figure the bid the G's are at now will not even come close to getting any of them.
John be not discouraged. There are many among us who have sniping software and they are absolutley NOT afraid to use it...........

E-Bay the damned thing already...

FWIW: I also feel that E-Bay would be a win-win for both the collecting community and for the seller.

So what if the ST-1 DOES disappear into "The Unknown Collector's" bookcase, or safe? If YOU (broadly stated) do not want that to happen, then YOU should bid higher than "The Unknown Collector" does yourself....

Of course the eventual buyer of the ST-1 will have far more competition from the world wide web than if the Module was sold exclusively through PMing on the Acaeum, which IMO is the underlying reason behind the negative comments for selling on E-Bay.

Besides, I have all of BadMike's money now and it is burning a big hole in my britches..... 8O 8O
Hey!! A guys gotta start his second collection sometime and what better item to begin with than an ST-1 :?: ..... 8)

Aneoth's got a warchest full of money to spend!!!! He's loaded with MY money guys!!!!  Look out cause I don't think anyone is going to be able to match him on this one.....
One vote here for the frenzy of ebay madness, since I won't be participating and a spectator sport is more fun than a boring "press release" the next day saying how much it went for in a private offer (If we even find out that, since being a private transaction both parties could concievably decide to stay mum about the entire thing).

Is the posting of the ST1 thread, and the sale of the Aneoth collection shortly thereafter related perhaps? A pre-emptive freeing up of funds for the battle mayhaps?

Hmmmm...I suspect it was more like a pre-emptive "Either this junk goes or you go" strike by Aneoth's wife....

that happened to me once. that was one of the (many) reasons i got divorced 5 years ago. thankfully, Amanda is far more understanding and just calls it "all that geeky stuff" and pretty much leaves me to it so long as it don't affect her - which is 'mostly' does'nt :D

Doesn't she play all that geeky stuff?
