Hi Folks,

I have likely not been in the game long enough to justify my good fortune, but I have managed to acquire a DMG Second Alpha. I am hoping to call on the expertise of the community to help me assess the condition of this find and to get at least a rough idea on it's value in the current market. I can see from the listing for this book in the Rares Index that the value was last updated February of 2019. I imagine that today's climate might yield higher numbers than we are seeing there currently. Just a heads up on this, I am not looking to sell but rather get myself in the know about what I have at this point as I decide the books fate in time to come. I am including links to detailed images here.

I humbly await your comments and assessment.

Submitted for your approval. -=CR=-

Cerulean, I would say the condition on your Second Alpha is a solid VG.

However, value on this one is kinda tricky. There are plenty of collectors that give this oddity high collectability and the listed Acaeum value reflects that. There are others, what I would consider a vocal and not insignificant minority, that do not consider the Second Alpha to be desirable at all or at least not as desirable as other oddities (such as the orange B3). They would scoff at the Acaeum valuation. Search "Second Alpha" for some discussion on this.

Full disclosure: I side with the majority and consider this printing important (mostly because I also own a Second Alpha  :D ).

Héctor.

ps. I hate to put numbers on things, but I would say $2,500 would be a fair approximate value for your Second Alpha.

I wouldn't be surprised if it tops $4K.

Wow, think so Deadlord? They don't come along too often do they? Thanks for your comment.

I think 4k is unrealistic. I own three of them and I haven't paid over $1000 for any of them (one was a trade). and one was just a few months ago. Now strange things happen every day however. It only takes one person. But if you solicit it in a private sale, I don't know anyone who would pay that much (and I probably know 90% of the collectors that spend at least 40k/year on this stuff).
