Prices have really skyrocketed for these sets lately.  They aren't coming up a lot anymore, and they are becoming more collectible.

It's more than likely a combination of the new-found interest in chess, possibly due in part to the "The Queen's Gambit" series, and the increased interest in D&D related items, especially older items.  This chess set is technically not that old, but old enough, and it was a limited edition.  The materials used were fairly high-quality too.

I think a third choice is that some may confuse it with the truly hard to find 10th anniversary chess set.

I'll be shocked if this thing actually sells.  It's in used condition.  I've got it up on eBay right now for $29.99.   :?

You haven’t been paying attention if you think that might not sell.  Looks like it’s already gone, which would indicate to me that it was not well priced.

It did sell!  You are right that it probably wasn't well priced, but since I didn't want it at all, I'm glad to be done with it.  It really wasn't in good shape at all.  I mean, there was no mold or mildew, or roach poo, or anything gross about it, but I am still shocked it sold that fast.  I've also sold plenty of items for way more than I thought I'd get, so maybe it all evens out.  I'm pleased.   :D

The 2006? Set is resin, the 1996? Set is from Danbury mint so I’d say pewter, the 1984? Set I would guess lead/pewter.
