I think this is a
MM
3rd Print Alpha.
Is it possible the red lettering on the spine has faded so much it looks white?
book meets all other qualities...copyright 3rd ed. dec 1978, red flyleaves, wizard logo, etc

Looks like sun damage/fading to me.
