Hi my name is Vincenzo and I live in Italy. I am starting to collect D&D books.  I am interested to buy the Moldvay Basic set.

What do you think it is a fair price of a box set with sealed dice?

I would like to know how many inserts there are inside the box  (excluding the rulebook, the modulo B2  and the dice with a dice crayon).

Will the absence of  some of the inserts decrease the price?

Thank you so much.

If you are looking for the Moldvay Basic version, then you should look for the 8th-11th printings.  It can be a bit confusing, but this should provide most of the details you are looking for:

As far as inserts are concerned, not sure you will be successful in determining that, as I believe they varied from printing to printing, sometimes in the same printing.

There were usually about three to four inserts:

1. A customer survey / feedback sheet
2. Gateway to Adventure catalog
3. RPGA membership sheet
4. Advertisement sheet

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

It difficult to determine a fair price.

Similar conditions  at very  different prices.

A lot of times there are other factors that affect the price of these sets.  One of the biggest factors is "extras" that find their way into the box.  Since there was a lot of space in these boxes, people often tended to put other items the the box.

Best to pick some auctions that you like and set your limit for how much you want to bid, or pick a BIN listing that is in your budget.  If you are patient, you will get one for a reasonable price, since quite a few of them come up.

You'll want to pay attention to the shipping cost of course, since box sets aren't cheap to send internationally.

You can use The Acaeum pricing as a guideline for the value per condition.  It's based on actual eBay auction sales.
