Hi.

I have got involved in trading for some early White Dwarf mags - does anyone know what these might be worth (so I can guage my trades well  :D  :D )

I have looked on ebay but the prices seem very variable.

Here you go:

- WD 1
- WD 2 (first print and reprint)
- WD 3 (first print and reprint)
- any WD from # 10 onwards...

Any ideas?

Thanks indeedy. :)

Magazine conditions aren't overly important, but given the price variations would be useful to know! (Especially if NM )

You don't have any "Owl & Weasel"'s going spare by any chance, as well? *g*

A nice copy of WD1 will sell for about the same as the first dozen together.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 5936077533
(and that was far from the cheapest lot like that...)
vs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5917221551

Yes, highly variable. Another somewhat dodgy #10 just sold at £16.
And there's been worse (just after Mike <improvstone> was on the purchase rampage and ppl took those prices as the new "mark").
Silliest auction price of 2004-2005 announced! • Page 19 • Collecting General •  The Acaeum

WD was never quite so heavily loaded towards #1 as the Dragon. Seems to be becoming more in recent years.

Presuming "nice" copies. *takes stab*

#1: £60 rep.: £25-40
#2: £30 rep.: £15-20
#3: £25 rep.: £12-20
#4: £20 rep.: £10-15
#5: £15 rep.: £10-12
#6: £15
#7-9: £12
#10-15: £7-10
#16-20: £5-8
#21-38: £2.50-5
#39-: whatever.... (#72 can be "marketed", though)

Doesn't sound too unfair, either high or low, that...

I've been selling a nice little run of White Dwarfs from the 20's through the 90's for the last month or so, you are welcome to check my seller name on ebay (badmike3books) and selling history to see what I have got for them, but generally between $5 and $10 each for those issues in that spread. I found most of my White Dwarf buyers are single issue guys, they need that one particular article, module, or number for their collection...

Thanks. Yeah, OK, that's a valid point :)

Not just Talisman is "marketable".
There are definitely people looking to pick up all the issues with CoC or RQ material, for example; or particular scenarios/settings (such as "Irilian"; 404 Not Found ).

"Whatever" was probably a bit too catch-all, perhaps.
And there was usually better-quality material in most issues than in equivalent Dragons! *g*
(well, in the "old days", anyhow ;))

And no CD archive, either... lack of which usually helps to keep values above zero (for later issues in that WD timeframe).

sadly no - and I haven't seen any of them on ebay either...

I will only be selling a few spares - they are probably in excellent condition, no rust, no tears but spine creases (the paper is a bit thin and creases easily)

Irilian was a pretty good series.  It ran in White Dwarf from #41 through #47 I believe (don't trust me please, I may be off an issue or two). Presented a fantasy city in depth, this was the days before even City of Greyhawk, so the entries were quite useful.  I always liked their game and module reviews, even if I hardly ever agreed with them (I think they really ripped my favorite Call of Cthulhu adventure of all time, Masks of Nyarlathotep, and that adventure is widely acknowledged as a classic today!).  You could tell they weren't afraid of pissing off someone that might be buying ad space, some of the reviews (especially of american products, of course) were quite scathing and funny.

Heh, heh... Didn't see the new price! :D
Still hasn't quite matched the previous "high", but that was a NM copy...

Was discussing this one (and the previously non-notified reprints) cryptically with John Huckerby on the other thread.

And the bidders are only just starting to heat up after the seller mentions it's got a ripped cover...
Maybe that neat reflection-spotlight trick works better than I think?! ;)

He states in his White Dwarf No. 2 auction that "has a 5mm rip on the spine because of the folder" - I assume that this is a broken up collection.  The WD Folders are pretty tough to get stuff into and out of (unless i am doing it wrong  ) so all of these may be a bit ripped.

You're not doing it wrong. The chords in the folders are very tight. And over time, if stored vertically as intended, the chord cuts into the magazines. Either take your WDs out and store them separately. Or if you don't want to risk damaging them while you're trying to get them out, store the binders horizontally.

I suspect that all these WDs will have small tears on the spine.

oh well, off to get some more 2000AD-sized comic bags and card backers.  By the way - can you get anything better (in the UK...) - I am thinking of those 'special' plastic basg you can buy in the US which are acid free (or somesuch).??
