I know the Tom Meier's nude Balrog miniature is rare. It was one of the few official Ral Partha miniatures to be pulled because some of the general public were upset that the Balrog, despite being an evil demon, was rather generously "blessed."  Another version was later released with him wearing a loin cloth.

At some point in time, he will be going up on eBay.  However, let's talk about value.  These are the things that he has going for him. He is rare, a demon (not just any demon, but a Balrog), and nude.   He is painted, but paint comes off.

Let's get some opinions.

Was rare, now re-printed by our freinds at Iron Winds metals.

Please post me the link on Iron Wind Metals website where the reproduced miniature is shown.  It must be in an adult section because it does not come up under the search. Thanks

Well, it doesn't look like it has been reprinted.  Let's continue with opinions.  Thanks

Did it come in a box or blister pack?  Do you still have the box or blister pack?  If not, then that will bring down the value significantly.
How is the paint job?  If it's bad or just mediocre then that will bring down the value significantly.  You might want to strip it yourself first before selling it in that case.

Unfortunately, we don't have the blister pack.  My brother bought it in the late 70s or early 80s and never thought about it as a collectible. That said, looking at the Iron Wind Metals forum page, there were very few of these produced.  The Super Adminstrator on that site was unsure whether or not they were made for sale or a few made to be given away as gifts to stores.  Since my brother bought one, I would imagine that they were made for sale.

There is talk on Iron Wind Metals that they may rerelease this figure, but it might only be through their site.  The new figure, I imagine, would be made of lead free pewter.  This figure is made out of lead.

The eventual release of a new figure might bring down the value.  However, the original is still an interesting piece of role playing history.

The paint job is not wonderful, but it is not too bad either.

Whatever the final value turns out to be, we will have fun posting it.  The major question will be whether or not we will have to post it in the adult section or to get a large black box to cover his privates.  We also will need to come up with a suitable title.

Simply mask the appropriate parts, take a pic and post it. I would reference the nudity part in the description.

Is eBay really that lame that it would force you to do this for a bona fide piece of artwork?  It's not exactly pornographic.

It is an interesting question on what eBay would do. However, if Iron Wind Metals is considering doing a rerelease that is only offered through their website, then it might not be a bad idea to be extra cautious.

If a moderator comes by and says that it is all right to post a picture of the Balrog, I will do so.  Otherwise, I am going to hold off.

It's artwork so I can't believe eBay would pull it as pornography, but who knows....?  I would emphasize the "large member" on the figure in the description and not blur or mask it in order to draw more interest and hence, bids.  Should be interesting to see what happens, regardless...

I posted a pic of the Balrog on the Iron Wind Metals forum under the fantasy section. The title of the thread is Nude Balrog.

On looking at the pic, the paint job is pretty bad. However, there is no doubt what is hanging between his legs.
