I received this piece of artwork from a collection of very rare Call of Cthulhu items that I purchased.

Does anyone know who the artist is or the name of the painting?

Not offhand, no.  Is it perhaps a Mythos card?

What other goodies did you pick up? :D

It might be by Richard Sardinha. He did some stuff for WotC in the early/mid 2000's.

maybe try contacting him on his site?

Thanks!  Looking closely at the signature, it is indeed Sardinha, done in 1997.  I sent a message to him and hopefully he'll get back to me with more details about the background and history of that painting.

I'm still going over everything.  The crown jewel of the collection appears to be an original Lovecraft Tarot Deck.  There are plenty of early fanzines and other assorted goodness however.   :D

Rick got back to me.  He confirmed that he did the painting way back and sold it because he needed the cash.

The painting's name is The Familiar.   :D

Great to hear! I think he's got a good style. Did he say whether it was an interior to a CoC book or was it for card art? It didn't come across to me as a cover painting. It's a great pickup nonetheless PDT_Armataz_01_34

Definitely not a CoC cover painting.

Hi,

I'm sure I recognise that from somewhere...

Could it be a painting from the Clive Barker Imajicca card game?

Cheers,

Ha!  These Russians are describing all the fantasy creatures in their texting rpg using art pieces I suspect they plagiarized/copied off the internet!   8O
