Ask Andy Chernak or Ray Rubin from Grenadier (via industry contacts)?
They were running that promo.

otoh... that doesn't look like the (simpler) gold-plated wizard they gave me at the time.

"In 1982 and 1983 Grenadier conducted a Wizard's Gold Contest in which they placed gold-plated castings within random boxes of figures. The box also included a certificate for a drawing. The grand prize for 1982 was a one-half ounce of gold for the purchaser of the box set and the store which sold it. The 1983 certificates awarded gift certificates and were placed in 6001 - Dragons of the Emerald Idol and 6002 - Skeleton-Raiders of the Undead box sets. However, collectors have reported gold-plated figures from other contemporaneous sets."*

and the seller says this was in a non-Grenadier assortment. And the bottom doesn't seem to have validation (can't tell). And the seller doesn't say what's on the bottom.

Too risky for that price, imho.

I have a gold one like that Bill, so the minis a legit Grenadier production.  Here's the more usual 3 gold Grenadier AD&D minis:

And I have a gold deep one and wizard like the one in your auction, too:

Also, I was able to buy the newer MU (linked above, not in my photo) and Deep One for ~$75 each, so $363 is way high (and $75 is probably high for the deep one, given the prices in my following post).

Paul Stormberg also sold some from the recent-ish Dave Arneson collection that included a golden Fu Manchu @  and Sherlock Holmes @

Based on the most recent sale of a similar mini for less than $35, the mini in question is priced 10x too high. I think the most I've ever seen a gold-plated Grenadier mini go for was maybe $100 or so.

Thanks guys-seemed kinda high to me as well. Looks to be real based on Grodog's photos though.
