I am hoping that you all can help me with the Grenadier lead figures that I have from the 80's.  Some are painted (when I had better eyes) and some are still unpainted.  I have some of the original boxes, but they are in pretty rough shape.  The figurines are in good shape though, no apparent corrosion or decay.

I really have no idea what these are worth, but it seems a shame that these are in storage not being enjoyed!

I will give some basic details.

Set           Name                         Box          Pieces
2002   Halflings                          Box           Full Set of 9 pieces
2003   Dwarves                          Box           Full set of 10 pieces
2004   Hirelings                       NO BOX       8 of 9 pieces
2005   Specialists                    NO BOX        6 0f 10 pieces
2006   Fighting Men                NO BOX       7 of 10 pieces
2010   Denizens of the Swamp  Box           7 of 9 pieces
5002   Monsters                        Box           12 of 20 pieces

If you are interested I can shoot better shots, but I really did not want to get too involved if there is no value.

Thanks!

These are worth something.

Here is a related thread which should help you:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6439&p=97949&hilit=2002+Halflings#p97949

The values for these boxed sets, know as "gold boxes" can vary greatly.  If they are mint and shrink-wrapped, you might get $75 a box for the smaller boxes and $125 for the larger boxes.  If there is no box, or it's beat to hell, the miniatures are painted badly, or are banged up, or you are missing even one figure, you might get $10.00 for a small set.  Unless the paint jobs are pretty good, painted figures are actually worth less than figures which were never painted.  Inserts are more important for value purposes than you might realize.  A complete box set with an insert might go for double than a box missing it.  Make dang sure you don't have a gold wizard or orc shaman figure in your mix.  Those miniatures of real gold are worth $100.00 just by themselves and are very rare.

These figures do contain lead, so wash your hands after touching them and make sure no small kids get near them.  If they are completely painted, including the bottom, they are safe to handle.

Just looking at your picture and text information, I'd guess you'd get $8.00 to $15.00 for each set if sold separately.  Your last two sets, even with missing pieces, are likely worth the most.  If sold in one lot, I'd guess you'd get $50.00 for them this summer and $60.00 during January and February.   8)

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

Hello,
I just listed four boxes of these Grenadier miniatures for sale on eBay (Wizards, Thieves, Specialists, and Orc's Lair), but wasn't sure of the value? so I just put in a starting bid of $7.99...

What is the deal with "miniatures of real gold"???  I hadn't heard of that?  I don't want to mistakenly sell those!

Do you know where I can get reprints of the inserts so that I can validate that the right minis are in the right box?  If I can validate the contents, I would feel better about selling them (even though I mentioned selling them AS IS...)  I found a link to a Wizards insert, but the photo here is taken from too far away to be able to confirm the Specialists...

Thanks for any help you might give!  (I'm brand new to the idea that my lifelong hobby could have sale value!)

A good place to look up D&D licenced/approved minis is DnDlead.com. Look to the proper link on the right of this (Grenadier) page for the type of box you are looking into.

The 'gold' minis aren't really gold, just colored that way via plating of some kind. Sorta like the 'golden' dollar coins we see nowadays. Just an alloy that looks a gold-like color.

Grenadier had run a promo where some select boxes had a 'gold' magic user, orc shaman, or I've also seen a basilisk. In the box, there was a coupon that you could send in for a raffle of an ounce of actual gold. There's one on EBay now for a look-see.

Thanks Simpering Toad!  On the positive side, I found a lot of information about my sets, including original (PDF) Inventory sheets!  On the negative side, I realized that my Specialists, Wizards, and Thieves were a little bit mixed up!  Because I'm a bit anal and didn't want a buyer to complain, I had to correct the contents of some of the sets on eBay!  oops!  At least the Orcs were easily recognizable!
I appreciate it!

Glad I found this thread! I acquired a box of the Fighting Men and Specialists (in box with sheets - 1 fig missing from Specialists) last summer and haven't had any idea of the worth.

If you have the insert sheet around $35.00 for the complete set, the 1 fig missing I would guess around $20.00

Thanks Blackmoor! That's about what I was guessing - they were with a bunch of 1e books and an older Basic set (still with the wooden dice) that I picked up for $10.

Only a great deal if it's something you want or need...and definitely don't need or want these...
