Heya, folks,

I picked up an interesting little booklet today.  It's titled "Weapons: an illustrated compendium of arms suitable for use in medieval fantasy roleplaying games."  It was written by Matthew Balent, and published by Turtle Press back in 1981.  Apparently, it was a limited print run of 500, and each copy was numbered and signed; I've got copy #201.

Apparently, this is the predecessor to the Palladium Books of Weapons series, published just before Balent went to Palladium.

Does anyone know anything about this?  I'm putting together my contributions for the Gen Con charity auction this year, and I may include this if it's worth including.

Bill promises to bid with gusto - if that isn't a ringing endorsement for an item, I don't know what is...

There is an entry on RPGGeek
http://rpggeek.com/rpgitem/51253/weapons

In the Compendium of Weapons, Armor & Castles it is written that "most arts of page 49 to 85 of are reprinted from the author's earlier publication "Weapons" by Turtle Press."

A bunch of these were sold in the "Palladium needs money" auctions - I think 5 (maybe 10 copies).  I think they sold around $40 - $50 but some of that might have also been people wanting to support Palladium.  With reprints and the compendiums, the content has been published several times and is very cheap to get.  I also seem to remember that these don't actually have RPG specific info in them - they are historical references with pictures.

It has some very basic generic stats for damage, symmetry, and the like, but yes, it's primarily a historical reference.

Sounds like it'll find a good home, though, so I'll send it along to the auction.  (Now if there was only a way I could send ME along...ah, well.  Next year.)
