Lots of good stuff in there for sure.  On the Ebay vs GenCon discussion, you can find the sale prices of items from the previous years of GenCon (not sure if this year's are posted yet).  Its always fun to browse through and in general, most items sell for considerably less than on Ebay.  You should take into account the fee structures for both places though.

It might be worth your while to figure out the prices and try and sell items on the forums (here, dragonsfoot, rpg.net, etc) to avoid the fees altogether.

For some of the rares such as the open tourneys and signed D&DG, it really is tough to gauge what the final selling price will be.  If a couple of bidders get into it, they could end up much higher - they have very good potential.  Wasn't it a month or so ago that a trashed DMG (with grey duct tape onn the spine) signed by Gygax sold for $160?  A 1st print D&DG has a solid price to begin with (and is an early book), etc...

The auction report for Gen Con 2011 has been posted here:

http://www.livegameauctions.com/index.p ... &Itemid=13

As a general matter, I agree with others that prices are usually lower at Gen Con.  But not always.  If it's something that stratochamp, Blackmoor or I would be interested in, you're likely to get the same price or even higher.  Assuming we're in the room at the time it comes up, of course.

Unpunched Ares mags (any number) sell for $20 plus consistently. Anything less is a bargain for the buyer.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I opened up ebay and paypal accounts his weekend, and even bid on a few things to get my feet under me. No winning bids - but thats just fine as I start to make sense of everything.

NTRPG con sounds like a blast, even if autographs be hanged! Life permitting, I might just pencil it in.

I have gone back and updated the original messages with the values from the last box. Roughly $1000 out of that lot - bringing the total so far up to around $3000. Still a couple boxes to go as well.

Here is an updated list of "open items":

Signed DL poster - 1984 dramatic reading
Ares #3 punched ($5-10?)
Secrets of the Sages (summer 1988 - the only issue I think)
"The Dungeon" retail order blank (Nov 1980): worthless?
Dragons of Winter Night handbill (GenCon 18 - photo on thread page 2)
Shadowrun 7101 (1989), screen, unpunched counters, Silver Angel, and 1989 and 1990 update flyers.
The Iron Wind (1980)
Judge Dread Collection (IPC 1985)

A remarkably small list consdiering how much has been posted!

This weekend I also found the printed prebublication manuscript for Helm of Selnor. It is a workinng copy with a couple edits scribbled in, and it is likley the only one in existance.

So what would a lot composed of the following be approximately valued at? :
- Tresures of Grayhawk (signed authors copy - one of many authors to be sure though).
- 4 pages of handwritten mansuscript (including my hand drawing of the helm in the margin).
- The complete prepublication working copy.

Guesses?

I will try to get started on the next box this week, but I have some travel coming up so no promises...

RE: The Iron Wind (ICE 1980)

Found a first printing Iron Wind (b&w printing on parchment cover) at Noble Knight for $60.

Auction Estimate $30-$50 NM sound about right?

I think these were first printed b&w on parchment, then a few months later had covers removed from the remaining inventory and rebound with a reddish colored cover.

$30-50 for a 1st Iron Wind sounds about right (assuming it is in good shape). I have one too from way back when, so I tend to watch them on eBay to see how they fare.

Thanks for the pic of the Grenadier bolt thrower :)

Would these be in the ballpark?

Early DragonLance autographs: $50
Helm of Selnor manuscripts and signed Treasures of Greyhawk: $75-150

Take a vote - too high or too low!

Thanks
Chuck

I'd guess about $10 or so if you have a nice picture.

Could you scan the front page of this?

Tome of Treasures has scans of the March and June 1981 Retail Order Blanks posted in this thread, but not for November 1981.

It's actually Nov 1980 (rather than 81)

Here are the scans (front and back). Feel free to crosspost it back to the tome!

Thanks for the scans! How many pages are there total? Is it just a single sheet with a front and back? The ones on Tome of Treasures have 24 or 32 pages, IIRC.

Hmm - your right. Just a single sheet printed front and back. Wierd. Does anyone else have any of these old order forms sitting around? I wonder when they went from single sheets to a beefier format.

This was just sitting in one of my old boxed sets, where I must have stashed it to keep it from getting crumpled (I dont throw away much - obviously).

I doubt if anyone is really actively collecting these, or even passingly interested, but these are the kind of random discoveries that jazz me up for some reason

What "treasures" have other folks discovered in hidden amongst your collections?

Other than The Black Vial, I haven't found anything noteworthy, but I have a zillion boxed sets to go through. The wife has become quite proficient at inventorying; she is breastfeeding, and the kid spends 90% of his day on the boob, so she has plenty of time to do it. She had me laughing my ass of Sunday when she had an opened boxed set resting on the baby while he boobed.

Some people do collect old TSR catalogs, etc :)  Although a single page one that doesn't list the RPG stuff probably isn't going to bring in very much.  It does make me wonder if it is really only 1 sheet of a larger bundle.  I would have to dig out my catalogs to see how they compare but they are a bit buried at the moment.
