Hey Haunted,

You know if you show up to NTRPG con next year you could get Jim Ward to sign it for you. :)

Best regards,
Ronald

How would a new Ward signtaure play alongside a vintage Gygax signature I wonder? Anyone want to hazard a guess with and without the extra signature?

Filling in a bit more [updated 9/9/11]:

Tamoachan 154: $1000-1500
AD&D PBM: $50-100
AD&D open scenarios: $100-300 each
GW novels (assume VF): $10 each x 14 => about $120 - $160 total
Inferno #1-#9 (assume VF): $60 total for all
Unopened minis: Guessing - need some help.
Grenadier:
Fantasty warriors: 9204 ($20), 1425, 1436 ($5-10 each)
UK Fantasy warriors: 1401, 1402, 1410, 1413 ($5-10 each)
Dragonlords: 2502 ($50-70)
Fantasy Lords: #115, 132, 181 ($5-10 each)
Ral Partha: ($5-10 each)
Personalities: 01-023, 047, 067, 096
Imports: FA6, FA28, FAC29
Elves: 12-050
Fantasy Collector: 02-093
RAFM: 3074 (5$)
Alternative Armies: CE2, CE3, CE13 ($5-$10 each)
Citadel:
Elf Warmasters: 0-7424-2, 0-7424-9, plus mounted general and repeating bolt thrower. $10 each, $15-20 bolt thrower.
Gygax signed 1st printing Dieties (Cthulhu): $75-150
Signed DL poster: Will try to get a picture of this next. Confirm which signatures.
Dragontales Anthology
Tortured Souls - #1 and #3: $10-20
HarnLore #1 (spring 1987): $5-10
Citadel Journel (also spring 1987)
Ares #1 unpunched ($15-20)?
Ares #3 punched ($5-10?)
Dungeon #1-#7 ($100 - 120 total by Acaeum index)

As I get confirmations on these I will take them off and add the next boxes !

All the pelasant banter here keeps me motivated to keep at the boxes. Thanks so much. Hoping I might get to meet some of the prestigious Acaeum personalities at GenCon next year. It may be I even recognize a few of you from all my years prowling around there...

Haunted,

For your miniatures, I would say most of your guesses are spot on. The Grenadier Red Dragon could potentially go higher, and 9204 (Heavy Bolt Thrower) could go either way - the Fantasy Warrior sets can be hit or miss.

The Alternative Armies blisters are probably more in line with $5-10 each.

I believe the Warmaster units are still available from GW through their Specialist Games section, so you might be able to compare their prices to yours.

If you have time, please post a pic of Grenadier 9204, as I've yet to see one. Thanks!

The autograph is really tough to quantify. I've seen the run-of-the mill PHB 6th prints and DMGs later prints that have Gary's autograph go sometimes relatively inexpensive (approx $30-$50) and sometimes towards $120-$180. However, the higher end ones were early/1st prints of the DMG or PHB.

I would generally figure the Gary autograph could add about $15-$30 ontop of the actual value of the book. However, the fact that your book actually came from the first batch sold at that GenCon AND has the specific signature to prove it I think adds even more value. It's hard to tell the condition of the book from the photos (are there any other notes or scribbles, marks, stains in the book?) I'd figure if the book is in good condition, you could start out the bidding at $75-$100 and see where it goes. I think there's been a Gary-mania sweeping through over the last year so I could see it doing well.

btw, getting further autographs I think could add some value. Maybe figure $10 per signature, that would be my guess.

Dang - packed that box up again last night! I think it was near the top though so will try to get a pic.

I had the impression that the heavy bolt thrower may be resin [edit - I remembered wrong - it's Luminite] rather than metal. I couldnt find it anywhere either - so maybe if I get a picture you could crosspost it to the someplace where the mini-collectors hang out

Thanks for the feedback on the minis - that will help make the next list shorter!

Tortured Souls! You should get a better price in the US vs. international because they're harder to find over there and the postage workd in the US collector's favour. $14.95 each should secure you quick easy sales.

Your Open Tourneys are likely to be closer to the $200 mark than the $50 mark, but that'll all depend on when you list them and those who bid. Good descriptions of the tourney storyline, along with a page count and map count, and any infor you have on how/when/where and a good photo of the sheets fanned constitutes a good eBay listing.

Place a link to the eBay listings here in the Classified Ad' section and run your auction for 7 days. Aim to end your auction late on either a Thursday or a Sunday night (just my personal experience here), and you'll be sure to get the attention of the big guns here that either collect or research TSR tourneys and their writers.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

The sheets for each scenario are almost all still connected one to another on old style computer paper with horizontal perfs between pages. I dont think I want to seperate them?

I am almost sure that some parts of this collection will be sold or go to auction. I am weighing the pros / cons of ebay (total newb) vs next year's GenCon auction.

With Ebay - everyone around the world would get a chance to bid, and I see that some of the most prolific collectors of this kind of ephemera are "geographically challenged" when it comes being in Indianapolis. But - I have no Ebay reputation, and admit to being a bit anxious about screwing up something basic. If I go the Ebay route, I would likely list some of the least valuable stuff first while I get my feet under me and learn the ropes.

On the other hand, I am 90% certain that I will be in Indy next year, and have both bought and sold items at the auction there in the past (admitedly not in the last decade or so though!). I am hoping that, if I behave myself in the meantine, I might score an Acaeum beer invite, and could preview some of the items to interested members beforehand. Maybe participate in some trading and schmoozing.

For the members unlikely to attend GenCon - If you knew there was an item you wanted to aquire at the auction, do you trust your Acaeum buddies enough to bid an item for you (assuming they weren't your competition!)?

Are GenCon auctions of rare items competitive with ebay?

Thanks for the feedback on the Tortured Souls, Gygax 1st printing, Harnlore, etc. I have a German guest in town this evening for work, but hoping to get a bit more added late tonight.

My feeling is you'll do better on ebay than at Gencon with the items. If you're open to international buyers, that can help out even more.

There's some great advice in threads on the forum about selling on ebay, and you'll have significantly more potential buyers, I think it's fair to say.

One other idea, is you can stick a reserve on various items. And if they're not going for what you want, you can still take them to Gencon later and see if you can get what you're looking for there.

The rest of this box. Mostly standard stuff for the era. No estimates needed.

A1, A2, A3, A4, A1-4
AC1
B1 (mono) - B11 (green B3)
C2, C3
CM2, CM3, CM7, CM9 (the missing ones likely in another box?)
D1, D2, D3 mono
DA1, DA2
DL1 - DL14
DQ1
EX1
FRA1, FRE2, FR9
Forgotten Realms Campaign Set (1031)
G1-G3 mono
World of Greyhawk Folio
GAZ 1 - GAZ 7
H1-H4

It seems I put them away roughly alphabetically...

Random stuff in this box:
Secrets of the Sages Summer 1988 (FR newsletter)
November 1980 The Dungeon retail order blank.

Lastly - The first 4 handwritten pages of "Helm of Selnor" from Treasures of Greyhawk. These might be my only handwritten pages. I may have done the rest on my old Mac Plus. Looking for any printed copies I may have kept.

You're right there. Keep them as attached as you can.
Don't seterate them.
Figure out your photos some other way.

I'd say you'll get more money out of eBay than GenCon. More bidders from around the world, and the big buyers from GenCon are very active on eBay when it counts.

spot on - 1% of d&d buyers are at gencon but 99% are on ebay (clearly these are made up numbers for the sake of illustration, but I'd be willing to bet ebay will garner  you more.(look at the price Malcolm paid for those O&Ws at the gencon auction as a case in point))

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

Ah then - will have to get myself signed on to this new fangled Ebay gizmo.

Photos of Fantasy Warriors 9204 for TollHouseGolem. Usual disclaimer about my bad photography skills.

Image

Image

And the signed DL poster from the first dramatic reading (GenCon 1984):

Image

I have 2 copies of this. I got the second for a friend who couldnt attend - but he had no interest when I brought it back. This is my most unique copy. In addition to the signatures of the participants, my younger sister's signature was added one weekend when my parents were out of town and she had her highschool friends over for vodka and sloe gin.  :x

I gaurentee no other copy in the world has this unique signature!

My other copy is in better shape, and doesnt have this added feature :!:

Signatures I can make out:
Janet Pack (Tasslehoff / Goldmoon)
Gary Pack (Tanis)
Harold Johnson (Sturm)
Laura Hickman (Bupu)
Douglas Niles (not attributed - read as Flint)
Tracy Hickman
Margaret Weis

The last sig is hard to make out. I think it could be Terry Phillips, who I think read as Raistlin. Here is the sig above Margaret and to the left of Tracy. It could be "Terry <cr> Raistlin". Anyone have a Terry Phillips signature to compare? Other ideas?

Image

Anyone have an older set of DL specific signatures?

This is another item which will be hard to value. Any hardcore DL collectors here?

Shall I continue with the next TSR box, or would folks rather wander into the JG , Roleaids, Harn stuff?

Updated list of items I still need help on [edited 9/12/11 to add values]:
Signed DL poster - 1984 dramatic reading
Dragontales Anthology (1980 Dragon Publishing): 5$
Citadel Journel (spring 1987): $5-20
Ares #1 unpunched ($20)
Ares #3 punched ($5-10?)
Secrets of the Sages (summer 1988 - the only issue I think)
The Dungeon retail order blank (Nov 1980): worthless?
Dragons of Winter Night handbill (GenCon 18 - photo on thread page 2)

If folks arent fatigued of this thread yet, I will try to get more up this weekend.

Thanks - With all the help I'm getting, I think I will have to buy a round of beers next year at Indy for these amazing Acaeum forum members!

I vote the non-TSR stuff, but go for whatever order works for you.

Dragontales - not much, $5ish
Citadel Journal - variable, $5-20, but I'd think the lower end
Secrets Of The Sages - quite a bit, but I don't know a fair estimate

See now I can help you with these:
Inferno ($30-50) Can depend on the printing.
Wondrous Weapons ($10-15)
Tarantis (color and b&w books) ($25-30 but this seems to be going up in value)
Wraith Overlord ($30-40)
Caverns of Thracia ($30-45) Can depend on the printing.
Verbosh ($10) Printing doesn't usually matter with this one.
Treasure Vaults of Lindoran ($10-15) Printing doesn't usually matter with this one.
Portals of Torsh ($5-10) Printing doesn't usually matter with this one.
First Fantasy Campaign ($45-90) Can depend on the printing plus completeness.
Dark Tower ($40-55) Can depend on the printing.

You can check for printing and what maps etc products should have here: http://www.acaeum.com/jg/

Since you went with my vote, I'm certainly obligated to help!  Estimates below (all assume solid condition and complete).

Haunted wrote:Chaosium:
Thieves World (1981) - highly variable, $25-50+, depends on the day
Carse - $15ish

GW:
Enemy Within (folio style) - $20ish
Shadows over Bogenhafen (folio) - $20ish
Death on the Reik boxed set. - this one is tougher to find, more like $30-50
Doomstones -- Fire in the Mounatins, Blood in Darkness, Death Rock - $15ish each
Lichemaster - tougher to find, $30-40
WarHammer Fantsay Role Play (1986) - depends on exactly what version, but probably in the $10-25 range
Warhammer Siege (1988) - $10-15
Warhammer Fantasy Battle (1987) - $10-15
Warhammer Armies (1988) - $10-15

Game Master Publications:
GM3 -- In Search of New Gods
GM4 -- The Awakening
GM5 -- Rod of Seraillian

Unfortunately, GM1 and GM2 are the tough to find ones, but these still probably about $15-25 each.

Role Aids:
Dragons
Undead
Shipwrecker
Evil Ruins
War of Darkness
Lich Lords
Shadows of Evil

All pretty common, $5-10 each.

Fantasy Master:
Town of Baldemar - $10-15

Catalyst:
City Book I, II, III - $5-15, a little more for II because it's OOP at the moment
Treasure Vault - $10-15

Columbia:
Harnlore 2 (Summer 1987) - $5-10
Harn 5001, 5002 - highly variable depending on which version you have - 5001 $10-50, 5002 $15-30
Encyclopedia Harnica 1-16 - $10-15 each
Kanday 5012 - $15-30
