I have a 1st edition (probably 1st printing) of Runequest that I will list in VF/NM condition.  Opinion on value?  (as in Buy it Now price)

Amazon has 5 ranging from $42 to $999 (!).  Hard to tell what condition those are in, though.

There's a 2nd Ed. on eBay for $50.

Everyone else seems to be out of stock...

Auctions for this period of RQ stuff go for $10-30, so maybe the high end for BIN. Balastor's Barracks is the most valuable title from the 70s ($50+), while the hardback rules (w/dust jacket) & boxed supplements from 82-83 go for $100+.

I recently paid $80 for a RQ1 and RQ2 1st:

They were nearly perfect and unused.  Some staple rust and original price stickers - that's it.

And sauro, maybe I just got lucky, but I got Balastor's recently too, and I think I paid around $15 for it, definitely under $20.

Ballastors still sells well. You have been lucky with such a price :)

Not $50 but the last copies before I got mine sold for $45-55 regurlarly. More in the $30-40 range these days.

Lucky?  Cheap?  Same thing.   :D

Took me a while to find it:  http://cgi.ebay.com/260781942521

Misspelling in the title couldn't have helped the seller...

Then you'll be able to help solve the mystery. Except for the revised maps in RQ2, all illustrations are the same except for the one on p.14 of RQ1. Why?

I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure I fully understand the question...

Is that the one with the long-nosed dinosaurian that walks like a man?

If so, that's the only illustration by that artist, and there are a number of scenarios that one might infer.

That looks to me like a good buy!

A price sticker on mine, no staple rust but no RQ2 either...

One of my favorite ebay tricks - look for common misspellings.  Got some killer prices on lighting controllers from "Luton".

But don't tell anyone, K?

There's a dragonewt shown on p.76, but all art in this volume appears to be by Luise Perrin. As far as 'walks like a man' goes, you must be thinking of Rory Calhoun.

Troll&Toad have been listing copies of 'Wyrms Footnote' for some time now.

p.s. one more 1970s RQ rarity: the first edition of Apple Lane from 1978, with a textured yellow cover.

You're right.  Brain fart: I was working with Monsters! Monsters! and Runequest at the same time and got the two confused.

The pic I was referring to is the lead one in this listing.

As opposed to the 2nd print Monsters! Monsters! in your second pic? ;)

Is it the 2nd printing?  I could swear I checked that out - I always qualify where I'm unsure.

How does one tell?

Not all reliable sources are always reliable, sorry.
As confirmed from the ads when Monsters! Monsters! was released, the first print has a $7 cover price which was reduced to $5.95 for the second print (too much competition in the marketplace already, back then?).

Then it might have been my error.  I recall seeing the $7 version listed, but may have misinterpreted it as a later edition.  I mean, who ever heard of a game price going DOWN?

Thanks for the help!
