Has a small hole on rear cover just below the top staple.
Small amount of shelf wear on cover, with VERY slightly round corners.
That is it, otherwise I would grade it at VF to NM.

I would grade it at Fine +

What is a fair price to expect for a Fine copy of this rare item?

I don't think this is very rare.  I looked into this one a couple years ago and they didn't seem very rare.  Ebay sales seemed to be in the $10-$15 range for nice copies.  Maybe its because reprints of bulk lots of issues are still in print and readily available.

Thanks Mark.
I would have thought higher, glad I asked here first.

FWIW: I will probably be listing a short run of early issues.
#1 being the featured book of course.

Doing a quick search again, I can't seem to find one for sale at all so it does seem rarer than the rest at least.

Front cover looks good with some obvious shelf wear.
Staples with small bit of rust.
Rear cover looks more worn than I at first thought, with the stain at top corner and the hole I mentioned in my 1st post.
The stain does go through the rear cover and a small bit is evident on the next page too.
Otherwise the inside is all very nice.

Still I think VG to Fine...

Lets say you purchased this and the seller listed it as being in Fine condition...would you be happy with your purchase?

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't be. I use the grading scale from here and sometimes I have an item that might straddle the line in VG/Fine or Fine/VF. In these, I ask myself, if I purchased the item and it was listed in the higher graded condtition would I be happy with my purchase. If I wouldn't be, I downgrade it.

Again....with all my posts....just my 2 cents.

Then I will NOT state what I think the grade is.

Let the pictures and description allow the bidders to grade it themseleves.

Hence my point about the danger of repeated overgrading leading inadvertently to downward pressure on the stated site "valuations"...

Good call. And on the plus side, I think Mark's perhaps not absolutely on the mark for a change - #1 is scarce and sought after: more like $40-50 for a nice copy for those I've seen where the auction hasn't flown under the radar (get the name correct!). Wouldn't like to hazard a guess for a copy with non-trivial faults, but it should still sell reasonably well.

I am pretty sure I sold a JTAS#1 for around $100, it was a nice one though and I sold it around 2-3 years ago

Now I'm curious to see what it will sell for. If it sells well, I will probably end up selling one later in the summer.
