For those of you who collect Jorune.. How much would you estimate the two 2nd edition pre-publication items, "Playing the Iscin Races" and "Shanthas of Jorune . . . and a Ramian", are worth these days?

Don't know, but I could be interested if you are selling them :D

They are quite rare to find. I try for a while without success...

I know next to nothing about Jorune.  Is this something I should be looking into?

I guess that's up to you :).

Without dredging through my fanzines and web links, I can't give you a thorough account of the story behind the pre-publication items. They are expansions to the 2nd edition (boxed set) Jorune RPG which were distributed at a convention in the late 80s (Gen Con? I believe), but never made it into production. Whether this was due to the buyout of the SkyRealms licenses by Chessex or some other reason I can't say/recall. I gather they are extremely rare. I have .pdfs, but would like originals. I'd be willing to pay more than $100 for each, perhaps more if that's what it takes (they are the only Jorune items I don't have, counting posters, masks, 1st ed., 3rd ed., etc.).

"Playing the Iscin Races" details how to create tauther (i.e., PCs) from the Earth animal-derived races. Among others these are the woffen, crugar, bronth, etc. (think Metamorphosis Alpha cougaroids, etc.).

"Shanthas of Jorune" covers the crystal-based technology of the Shanthas and their culture more generally.

Can't say why Jorune speaks to me. Maybe it's the Teves art, maybe it's the off-the-wall direction Leker took the Metamorphosis Alpha concept to create the game milieu, whatever. It grabs me. I've never played the game and probably never will, but I don't suppose that's anything new with certain games among some collectors around here.

Jorune seems to be more popular with the non-US members here at the Acaeum. Not sure if that's significant.

Never surrender!

I never thought I'd find the .pdfs (yeah, yeah, sue me), but someone here wanted a scan of 4 pages from an old Dungeoneer, and asked if there was anything they could give me in return. I mentioned these, and sure enough he had them. I think it was a countryman of yours, actually :).

yes they sold those at gencon in iirc 1989 and 1990. i have written here before that in 1991 they brought about 15 copies of Companion Jorune: Jorune Sholari  Supplement for sale in a pre-release version. they were not numbered, but they all had a cutesy distinct note on them, so i asked to look at the list of the messages to see which one i wanted (i picked "we deeply love you" probably because of amy leker.....). anyway that's how i know there were about 15 because i saw the list. i would think this would probably be the hardest jorune item to find.

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about the Sholari Supplement. I do recall when you posted about that one. Thanks for the specific printing dates.

you are most welcome. the sense i got at the time was that they were trying to gauge interest in supplementary product, but keep costs down by only "printing" a small number. it's only informed speculation on my part, but i sensed they had maybe 30-50 each of iscin and shanthas. i was gauche enough to ask for a big stack of product so as to be able to pick out the "best" condition copy.

Hi,

there is a (fair) chance I'll be ebaying a shedload of rare jorune stuff in the near future, including some of those. I'll post it on the classifieds here if I do.

Cheers,
malc
