I recently found a shrinkwrapped Warlocks & Warriors.  However, I doubt that the shrinkwrap is original shrinkwrap because of the following:

(1) The shrinkwrap is of the tough-and-flexible type and not the thin-and-brittle type.  The shrinkwrap seam is on the sides of the box:

(2) And a price sticker is underneath the shrinkwrap:

Was Warlocks & Warriors shrinkwrapped when it was released?  Is the shrinkwrap contemporaneous with the box, and could it have been applied soon after the store received it?

While I can't say for sure about this particular item, most late 1970's and later TSR box sets were indeed shrinkwrapped.

Yours, however, is almost certainly a re-shrink.  The price sticker and side-seam are dead giveaways.  So too is what appears to be a bit of play in the top of the shrink; professional shrinkwrap of the time was almost always tight (sometimes ridiculously tight).

I'm not sure that I have a W&W in shrink but my other boxed sets from the same period have tight shrink - usually strangling tight.  I think the price sticker underneath is good sign that it is not original.

I'll wait until next week to break the shrinkwrap open.  I am curious to see what the condition of the contents is.   :D

I agree with the comments above.
Seems an obvious store shrink wrap job with the price sticker inside.

I would not hesitate to open it up.
At the very least to confirm completeness and condition of contents.
