Nice Hantlers wrote:It's the the booklet (no. 66) bundled with the two maps in shrink wrap.  After I got it, I looked it up and noticed that the description says that the 1st print booklet did not include the maps.  Then, I found this thread and saw where Plaag mentioned having seen a photo of a set like this before.

Here's the auction where I bought it.  I presume that the seller, JasonZavoda, is the JZavoda from this forum.

That's me. The only other Jason Zavoda I know of is only into racing.

Picked this up recently.  My Judges Guild stuff is pretty thinned out (though I used to have cases of it) but I still come across it now and then at a wholesale price.

Dead threads tell no tales..no wait that's not right.

Anyhow, I believe this is good proof on the release of the 1st print.  May have to dig into this when I can.

*Bump*

I've been busy cataloging and making sure my collection notes match this site.  Coming across #66 SS&WR, I couldn't resist fanning the debate once again.

killjoy32 wrote:i just wonder, as before, why they would even bother bringing out #69 if the #66 1st had maps? would seem somewhat pointless to me.

The point would be that people might want more maps (#66) to go with their SS&WR (#69).  You can never have enough Skandik Long Ships attacking Merchant Ships.   :D

Here is what does not make sense to me.  If the first print came out in 1978 with no maps and is priced at $6.50 and is followed later in 1978 by Flotilla One (#69), the maps only at $5.00, why would they have a second printing in 1979 and still sell it for $6.50.  The item is popular enough to warrant a second printing, you add the additional cost of the maps, plus general inflation (which was high at this time) and still sell it for $6.50.  That doesn't make sense to me.

Since at least three people have posted that they have 1st printing with maps, I think a note is warranted on the item page.

Wonder if Bill could help here?
I believe I've seen a few in SW (may even have a photo) of the 1st with maps.  If people have them, best chime in now.

Does this settle the discussion?

http://www.acaeum.com/jg/ModPhotos/JGad-Dragon019.html

Dragon Magazine add for Oct. 1978.  The add describes #66 as a booklet and ship deck plans.

First printing is 1978.  Second printing is 1979.

See I knew there was a reason to go back to older stuff and get it posted on the site.  :)
Shall see if I can get on my computer tomorrow and update this.

Does anyone have an extra set of the Deck Plans/Maps?
I have a 1st Print book, but no maps/plans.

Just for giggles.
On the inside front cover of my 1st Print book, are the following words:

"A package containing four additional Ship Drawing Sheets is available from Judges Guild, P.O. Box 773, Decatur Illinois, 62525."

(Bolding and Underline added for effect)
I know it means little (or nothing) but it IS an interesting statement for the 1st Print book to have at the beginning of the book.
Wonder if the 2nd Print Books have that same wording?

A clarifying Q:  are the four map sheets in Flotilla One all identical to those in S-S and WR, or do they differ at all?

Allan.
