this is a *bump* for this topic, but also to mention relating to Jasonw's Dark Tower that he has listed in the classifieds....

i have had a fair few dark towers and in varying conditions. that one seems pretty good and with you mentioning the staples but not showing a pic, might have deterred a collector from bidding. that said, most collectors prb wouldnt bid on it until about the last 5 seconds.

imo i think the opening bid was quite high $15. thats higher than i have seen a few of them sell for! though normally they would sell for higher, but a high start price can sometimes put ppl off.

not only this, having a "0" newb open the bidding isnt exactly what peeps like to see either....

but hey there ya go...discussion underway.

seems a decent copy for a 1st print.

Good points Al,

For those that might be interested here is a view of the spine showing the staples. As mentioned in my eBay writeup it is a patina, and not a crust  :)

The inside pages are very nice and bright and the pages pass my sniff test
(no musty smell, etc.).

well i know all these silly little things might sound kinda lame, but they are what collectors wanna hear :)

a nice clean quality copy of dark tower will always appeal to a collector. they mostly sell for about $25-35 imo, but i have seen them higher and lower than that, but that seems about the average for a nice 1st.

Just got back from an onsite service call and checked the bidding.
I am surprised  8O

The only thing that troubles me is the guy with the high bid has a zero rating, but I was at a zero rating not too long ago myself so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. At the moment it looks like if the guy becomes a non-payer then the next in line would be IFEARYETI

That is a top-end price for Dark Tower.  The bidder is a new identity, but that doesn't mean he is not legitimate. :?

$54 US is probably high enough to knock most of the snipers out...since newbs don't tend to be snipers.

Congratulations on this auction.  Let's hope the bidder keeps up his end.  :)

that is a tremendous price for the dark tower jason...nice one!

fwiw as a seller myself, i would send a msg to the 0 bidder and just ensure that as he is new, that he will keep up his end of the auction.

Hello,

An update on the buyer with the zero rating that won the auction of my Dark Tower.

I received payment through paypal this morning and shipped the item.  :)

Through communication with the gentleman he indicated that he had been an established eBay buyer in the past but late last year he had a heart attack and during that period a couple of items that he had bid on and won went unpaid so eBay cancelled his account.

He is just now getting back into it and if he messages are any indication you should see him bidding on more of the choice game items.

"Heavily annotate in pencil"  I am surprised at how that module is going for such a high price, but the pencil marks do not bother me.  It means that the game is a veteran.

Did anyone notice the pack of home made D&D stuff that went for almost $60 yesterday?  I think that game materials like that are only going to go up in value.

Was watching it close to the end, but wasn't going to pay that much for that lot. Guess its better to have things like this preserved rather then thrown out.
