hehe i checked it out - looks really cool doesnt it?

2 problems with it:

a. its way too big. would take up too way too much space.

b. it weighs 2.2kg, which is approxmiately half of the weight of ALL of my food and about 1/5th of my total pack weight.

hey-ho

Thanks Shane.
I modified my text on the listing thanks to your tip. As I mentioned, I thought that I had a poor copy that had been butchered by the printer.

For a moment I imagined what it must have been like at the Judges Guild office when they opened the first box of the Book of Treasure Maps and saw that terrible cutting job.  8O

I am sure that some would have been horrified and others would have immediately been thinking about how much of a discount they could bargain on their next print order... :D

I have two copies of The Book of Treasure Maps.

The first one I bought...15 years ago...at Goodwill for 99 cents...had a perfect cover.

The second one, in a lot with 11 other modules, was chopped even worse than the one in that picture.

Nice bit of JG printing trivia, aye?   8)

My 3rd printing is cut like the 1st printing as well.  How odd is that?  Wouldn't they have corrected this problem in subsequent printings?  Is it possible there were excess 1st printing pages and they slapped 3rd printing covers on them and then trimmed the covers to match the pages?  I'm very confused.

Obviously the work of a clever forger...trying to make 99 cents by faking a first edition!  I hate those guys! :x

My 1st has a bit of cover showing that would have been cut away had it been done right. Which I think has a blue stripe and white the rest of the part IIRC as I'm not looking at it right now. So it could be a forgery, but if it has any extra cover remaining past where it should then it is authentic.
I don't recall if the product list is on the inside back cover or not for either 1st or 3rd, so  doubt of the switching covers bit. What's odd though is the 3rd having the same cover as the 1st, but maybe it was no longer 'Official' play aid which the 2nd has on its cover.

I'll send you scans of the covers and product lists to see what you think.

Edit:  Probably not necessary to send you scans.  The covers are identical.  Both my 1st and 3rd print have the mis-cut right side.  Both have a bit of extra cover (red and white strip) left on the bottom right corner.  1st is More Fine Products, highest #14 on inside back cover.  3rd is Treasure vault, highest #700 on inside back cover.

I just recently acquired the 1st printing from an eBay auction mention in the thread.  The 3rd printing I have had for many years, but don't recall how I came by it.  I doubt it was an attempted forged 1st printing.

I notice this auction on eBay by our very own bclarkie:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

He list the item as complete, with only the book and the b&w map of the sewers.  I bought my copy many years ago, new and in the shrink wrap.  I have no recollection of it coming with the 'Hammermill Bond' Printing of the City State Judge's Map, as listed here:

Wraith Overlord

I would be very interested to know what the contents of other people's copies consists of.  Is it possible that there were separate print runs, with some containg the CSIO map and others not?

I think this was a mess up and included in my SWed set by mistake, since they is a majority that have commented theirs did not include this, plus no write up in catalog or ad states this having the map.

I need to change both #9 and #860.

Well this one seems to go back and forth, but after I go and change it, I discover what I originally had was somewhat correct. Pegasus 7 has the #9 map listed below #860 in the Booty List. Pegasus 8 (pg 16-17) states #860 as including the 17x22 city state map.
Now it would seem some did not get the #9 map, but as to 2 printings: I'd say the book is the same, just the #9 map is the difference.  I shall change the pages to mention the possibility of 2 packagings, and any further comments on this are welcome.

Here is an interesting lot, which has City State, Tegel Manor and Thieves of Fortress Badabaskor (prints?). There seems to be lots of bric-a-brac. If someone picks this up cheaply, maybe there will be a few bit and pieces for trade on our 'swapping bits and pieces thread.

Also if anyone gets this and is not interested in the Harn piece (mentioned in the heading) let me know what it is and if you're interested in trading.
