I have a copy of FFC on the way to me.  I will be interested to check it against the ones mentioned here.

I would concur with Shane's present hypothesis.

I have a copy like Al's, 92 numbered pages with a large price on the front cover. Presumably this is the 1st edition.

I also have a copy with no large price on the front cover and 92 numbered pages with a booty list ending with Storm Giants Casle. The second printing.

I have a 64 page edition with no large price on the cover.

A question for Frank... (I hope he still keeps an eye on this subweb :!: )

Are these the three prints that you have, or do you have a further variation?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Yeah, barring that there isn't a 1978 version to bump that to a 4th.

I have to say though that while I haven't read my 2nd print..the amount of extra material looks like it will be a good read.

I haven't done a complete comparrison, but the text in the all three prints seems to be almost identical. The compression to 64 pages has been don by reformatting the text, using smaller fonts, deleting some pictires, redrawing existing pictures and shrinking the maps down in size.

right i have had a real good shifty of my two FFC copies. i am pretty sure one is a 1st print and the other, maybe a 3rd or 4th?

so here are some notes i have made:

1st print:

cover print is a very dark red, has no index number and a large $7.98.

(c) 1977, booty list goes up to #35 three monster stats compendium sheets

pages are labelled 1-92, inside cover and content page not labelled. contents page covers pages 1-91

cover page says "first fantasy campaign playing aid by Dave Arneson, Judges guild" thats all thats on the page - with a picture of course.

Blackmoor the campaign starts on page 3

3rd / 4th print:

cover print is a lighter red than the 1st, $7.98 appears in very small print next and to the right of "fantasy game system not included"

pages are labelled 1-64

(c) 1980 - appears at the bottom on the contents page - and contents cover pages 3-63.

inside cover page has same picture as 1st, but says the following: To Colleen Wordem & family, addl notes by Richard Syder, Cover by Pixie Bledsaw, Illustrations, ken simpson & dave arneson, graphics, bob bledsaw and bill owen

blackmoor the campaign starts on page 4

booty list: "more fine products by Judges Guild - goes up to #380 Duck Pond"

i notice the font used in the 3rd / 4th is a LOT smaller than the 1st font. most of the picures throughout the book are the same but some are either not there or there are distinguishable differences in the art. the actual scenario text is the same - well the majority of what i checked was anyway

so there you go. there is a starter. if you want to know anything more - then lemme know and i will check.

Nope thats great..course a pic would help    :D

Am curious as all hell though if there can be one nailed down for 1978.

Well on to a question of my own (not related to FFC): Are the Journals and Dungeoneers found in the value packs all marked with a black line at the top or bottom (outside pages, not marked inside)?

If so I think this maybe a tally mark of sorts for the value packs, count their stock as it were. Then of course I'd be curious if all the dungeoneer 13s line up, etc.. (they do not in numeral order ie 13, 14, 15, etc)

I am holding my new copy of the First Fantasy Campaign.

1)  The lettering on the cover is very red.

2)  On the cover it says, "Eighty eight page book and two campaign maps..."

3)  Copyright 1980

4)  64 numbered pages inside  (?)  (Go figure?)

5)  Highest item on booty list is Duck Pond JG #380

This must be a fourth printing?   :?

A Question about JG #80, Of Skulls and Scrapfaggot Green:

I just got a copy of this item from Reindeergamez.

Afterglow lists two possible first editions...one with a black and white drawing of a barbarian, standing in a village square, and the other with four standing figures in black and white.

The issue I just got from Reindeergamez has BOTH.

The outside cover shows the four standing figures.

This is stapled OVER a second cover, showing the barbarian.  This second cover cites Bob Blake and Gen Con X, but does not have a title page (blank on the back side of that page...although it has page 50 printed on the same leaf).  The outer cover has a page numbered 51 on the inside of the back cover.

The Booty list (page 51) has a booty list with #97 Journal 15 (X) as the last item.

Title page inside of front cover says 1979.

What is this?  Could it be a "pre-Judges Guild" publication bound into the added JG cover?

Oh, and the same order from Reindeergamez also included what I am pretty sure is a first print Caverns of Thracia.

The price is in the lower left-hand corner ($6.50) rather than on the left center of the page.

The Booty List is actually called the "Treasure List," and it goes up to #119 Tower of Ulission.

It is in really good condition.

JG0080-Of Skulls and Scrapfaggot Green

i have had something similar to you before but i didnt keep hold of it cos the book was pretty mullered and i didnt want it cos of that. but i cant remember what the picture was on the cover - mine was like the 2nd print in that link above.

other than that one, i have only had 5th prints, so cant really help you there sorry.....

fwiw, if its in excellent condition, its worth keeping anyway, cos its not often the older prints of #80 pop up.

What is the home page for this link?  I cannot get it to take me to any other JG products.
