I've watched Matt Finch talking about Bob Bledsaw's pitch to him to reprint Tegel, and he pronounces it 'T-eagle'.
I also saw an interview with Gabor Lux because he worked on it with Bob prior to the approach to FGG, and he pronounced it 'T-egg-el'.
A staff member at GW BitD, probably one of the founders given the size of the company BitD, pronounced it 'T-edge-el', and that's the pronunciation that stuck with me until last month.
I've not heard the 'T-ay-g-el' option. That's interesting, and JG were known for borrowing artwork from Germanic sources also.
Bob was the author, so I'd now probably defer to 'T-eagle', or maybe 'T-ay-g-el', now that I am aware of it.

Makes me wonder how many other pronunciation discrepancies there are given the complexity of the game's routes in other cultures.

It's an issue which is best resolved within the gaming world. Let the PCs encounter NPCs throughout Tegel Manor who all pronounce it differently. At the finale, the boss monster is revealed to be Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.

I always thought it was a bastardisation of Kind Arthur's Tintagel, which is pronounced TIN-ta-jl. So in the UK T-edge-l or Te-jl seemed to be the way it was pronounced. I'm guessing with the guy dead, we'll never know for sure what his source for the name was, or its intended pronunciation. Maybe there are people who read King Arthur and go with TIN-tagel as in tin bagel. If the differentiation is an Americanization thing then on the grounds that JG and BB, and D&D for that matter, are all or US origin, I'll defer to T-eagle.
