Can someone please explain to me what the Dungeon Tac Cards were for?

What did the DM do with them?

How did they help the game?

Were they valuable at all?

They are meant to be placed in front of the player to act as a reminder of what action the character is doing, what weapons he or she is using, what equipment is used, etc.

Now a days you'd use something like what Paizo puts out: http://paizo.com/gameMastery/itemPacks

What was written on the cards?

How could generic cards tell a player what to do?

What void in the OD&D rules were these cards filling?

For the play rules bunch of them its like a DM screen broken up into cards (before there was such a thing) Then their is the weapon, shield, etc cards that has the rules for damage (don't have them in front of me, but there is other information on the weapon cards I just can't recall atm)

As for the void, probably an easier reference to have close at hand then the PHB..just my guess.

Don't the Dungeon Tac Cards pre-date AD&D?

Weren't they meant to be an aid to organize OD&D?
