IMO it's sitting on the upper limit of what you can expect for the two items mint in shrink. The price may be inflated by the Tourney Boxed Set which is a lot rarer than the Gazetteer.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Did these not come in a boxed set, or was that something else?

From what I can tell, there were two different releases of those books. The first was in a boxed set and the 2nd was in a ziplock bag with a red wrap around cover sheet that had designers notes and a product listing.  I have never owned any, though, so any more information would be appreciated! I THINK both are dated 1982 so I am unsure as to which versions these are.

Yes, at least 2 different releases. The 2 main prints are on ToT

But I saw these books frequently without the wrap cover, and I bought mine from a collector who bought them back in 82 and they were sold without cover sheet.

I wonder in there were sets without a cover sheet as well but more times than not, I think the original ziplock and cover sheet are lost.  The books are very snug inside that ziplock so anyone who wants to use them won't want to go through the hassle of trying to fit them back in that bag.

There are definitely at least 2 prints for this edition.  A blue wrap around cover and the orange wrap around cover.  One is the revised version - I think the edition stated in these books is misleading as well.

The boxed sets do show up from time to time but they are not a standard release.  At some point, Ragnarok got boxes.  So, when you bought stuff from them, you could have it boxed.  The boxes were plain but then a sticker related to what you bought was put on.  The contents are the same as the standard release packages.  I consider the boxed sets more of a special version rather than the standard - the box is a nice extra but not something I am willing to pay a lot for.  I have seen boxes for Ysgarth rules, various adventure sets, To Challenge Tomorrow and I think London by Night.  They have various other games that come boxed as well.

yes, my London by Night version is boxed but the rulebook is different from the unboxed version. The boxed set was released in 1984 and the booklet unboxed in 1991. The unboxed book is 10p longer (44p instead of 20p+12p)

There are probably a couple different editions of book.  By the Gods has at least 3 different prints, Siege and Fortress has at least 2, Duel Magical has at least 2 prints, etc.  The London by Night book was probably available by itself in 1984 as well.

Surely that should be a ":)"?
What fun is research if there's just a ticklist of a hundred items to "acquire" with their history already fully written up? ;)

Sure! At least when there is some coherent history ;)

For Ragnarok, it looks like a Troll &Toad description "the game could have a box, or not, could have dice or not"
