Another one I have been looking for, for years.  They are extremely rare.  Number 1 a bit more common (had that one already).

I can vaguely remember one on Ebay but that might just have been an illusion.  I do know someone who owns a copy though but he isn't selling.

i know a french guy who owns a copy of volume 4, but he doesn't want to share.

as for the copy of volume 2 bought by Mars, i agreed with a friend of mine to split the cost between the two of us, with him keeping the original copy while making a scan of the same to me. Such was my need for this volume that a scanned copy was enough for me.

This friend of mine agreed this morning, (he is lurking on this forum, you know who you are) but then Mars came and ruined my project. :D

What are these? I presume they're not D&D.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . chicken and wild rice soup.

Bifrost is similar to D&D, keeping some mecanisms, and some stats. It is only a rule system, no world, even if magic and creatures are more designed for FRPG. There is 10 physical and 10 mental caracteristics and system is based on percents.
A character can be only fighter or wizard (or fighter wizard). There is some alignment like as well.

The last volume, Book 4, is a compilation of the 3 others.

*g* Someone didn't check the second-hand section of the old Edinburgh Games Gallery often enough? ;)

Mars wrote:Another one I have been looking for, for years.  They are extremely rare.  Number 1 a bit more common (had that one already).

Agreed re. volume 1 but I'm not sure where they all went, Mark, since these did turn up not /that/ infrequently bitd, except for volume 4. OK, slightly less common than Heroes, perhaps, but not much rarer than No Honour in Sathporte no sooner had that been released(!) and more frequently seen than the likes of Victorian Adventures (nice snag last year, Géraud), the Warwick Supplements or Quests for Adventurers. Rarity would've varied depending on where in the UK and which shop you were in, of course. :)

Production values weren't exactly high which probably hasn't helped in the intervening years - volume 2 tended to "shred" and volume 3 had an edge-binding - like 1e Reaper - which caused more damage than it was worth. Someone smartly removed that from the copy you just picked up.

i'm sure these Bifrost volumes are easier to find in the UK than in the USA.
In fact they were published in UK back in time.
is there some used rpg shops in England?

And there's a second-hand section I've been missing out on all these years.  8O

Was; that's the rub... A five-figure (IIRC) demand for back-rates/taxes and it was no more. Copies of the Bifrost volumes were still turning up not infrequently 10+ years after publication but presumably have gone to ground nowadays given the chaos plague that swept most FLGSs from the streets in the UK.
The original print runs - for the first three, at least - can't have been that small; and they were well advertised.

I don't recall ever having seen an advertisement of Bifrost on the pages of Dragon magazine, for example.

Actually this year was the first time it was played at NTRPG.  But it seemed to be well received so it may become a yearly game.

If you are referring to the Aliens auction, this is not all that bad a price.  Except for the split corner, the box is in pretty nice condition.  It's complete and also has the expansion included.  You can find it cheaper but not always with the expansion.

Here is one without the expansion that ended just a hair below $100:

And here is another that sold that is essentially the same as the one referenced by Ronald only it is missing one of the alien cards:
