I had a few boxes of miniatures which were quite easy to research.
However, I have a lot of miniatures that my husband ordered/bought back in the 1970s and 80s mostly, and they are not in boxes. I have tried to research them, but it is so difficult when you don't really know what you are looking at. There are sites with numbers for a lot of miniatures, but no pictures, or very few pictures. Also joined a couple of groups, but again is too difficult and just overwhelming.
A lot of the ones that I have seem to be 'Custom Cast, ' many horses and riders that I just do not know how to put together. A lot of other figures that have what look like a round circle with lines inside it underneath the miniature. Very tiny, like a little shell design. And the initials MC. Some of these are square bottomed, some oblong, some irregular.
I also have Ral Partha, some very difficult to read what is underneath them even with a jeweller's glass. Especially I have a female wizard, which is hollow on the bottom, and have not been able to find her anywhere. She carries a staff with a red 'jewel' in it, and a broom/staff that has a face on it. And she has a familiar behind her. Also, there is printing on her garment, downwards.
Another Ral Partha, is a wraith on horseback, with a sword carried over the shoulder and a shield. This one has 1985 underneath and what looks like PP 824, which have not been able to find.
Finally, in my mystery lot, I have a fighter, standing on a square base, with RF 3023, and this is 1993.
If anyone knows any of the ones I have mentioned, would appreciate the help in identifying them.
Thanks!
Mary

When it comes to minis, a picture is worth a thousand words. Kind of fun to look for them. Here is a wraith on horseback. FF, not PP. Does it look anything like this:

?
Hard to tell what the wraith is carrying from this picture.
If you can post a picture, I bet you will get amazingly rapid id's. Some of the folks on this forum are amazing.

Hi Mary,
The Ral Partha figure with PP on the bottom is a Partha Pewter miniature from Rawcliffe Pewter. I think those are more geared to the non-gamer market, as they often were adorned with little crystals and other shiny things.
With regards to the rest of your unidentified minis, if you have pictures of them I'd be more than happy to see if I can ID them. I've had to do that a lot in the past couple of years, as some of the lots I've purchased often have minis that are strange even to a collector like myself.

I'm also happy to help ID pics.
re: Custom Cast, you might go digging around in the Heritage site @

as well as @

since Ernst there has posted several catalogs which may prove very helpful.

Another site I found. Link is directly to the manufacturer page. Not all have pictures, but maybe it will fill in a few empty spots.

Thanks very much for all the info. I am starting now with naming my jpgs so that I have more of an understanding of what I have got. And have photograped a lot of the bases of them. So, once I have them in order will be back. Not that many really. Just somehow overpowering after just researching modules and such!
