 I do my best.

I'm also the resident Star Trek expert. Might have something to do with owning every official Star Trek RPG out there, except CODA Star Trek and d20 Prime Directive (which I don't need because I own the original Prime Directive rules).

I'd rather you have some tranya! :colors:  :)

By the way, I like how you have what could be open bottles of liquid near a pristine OD&D box! You are livin' on the edge of the Neutral Zone there...

That is what the Crystal Dragon and the Princess are for.
To Protect the other inhabitants of the case from intruders and spillage.

But no, the six pack has never been opened and never will.
But since you mentioned it, just for safety; the Box of Ale will now be moved to another place.

Many fans consider "Trekkie" an insult. Unless they happen to be obnoxious little snobs who constantly hound the actors for autographs. "Trekker" is the preferred term, even though the other one appears in the dictionary.

Good thing I don't take such things seriously, eh?

How about "Trektard"?  I figure if you're going to insult someone might as well do it right.

I guess I am the resident Star Fleet Battles guy.

And yes, the SFB crowd definately wants nothing to do with Star Trek. One of the great ironies of gaming!

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

If anyone's interested, I'm always happy to provide expert consultation on:

- Greyhawk
- Pagan Publishing Call of Cthulhu stuff
- Blue Planet
- Ars Magica
- D&D tournaments and manuscripts
- early TSR history (though I'm sure folks like Paul Stormberg and faro know more :D )
- any of the game companies I've co-founded/worked for/worked closely with (Epitaph Studios, Event Horizon Productions, Pagan Publishing, Biohazard Games, Different Worlds Publishing, Pied Piper Publishing, and Black Blade Publishing)

That's only because FASA's Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator proved to be quicker and easier to play. :P

Then again, my POV has to be a bit colored for two reasons:

1. The Doomsday Edition of the basic set is way too detailed for me. I'm perfectly happy with the Cadet Training Handbook (though I'm trying to distill the rules into one book without the accompanying scenarios). Ideally, I'd be just as happy with the original microgame.

2. I don't care too much for war games, and SFB is very much a war game.

P.S. I've played around a bit with Federation Commander. It does a good job of streamlining the SFB rules, but it's still a bit much.

That is the love/hate of SFB. Complexity on steriods. We started playing when it was a pocket game, then through the expansions, the Commanders Rulebook versions and beyond. So it was a gradual climb up Mount Everest! 8O
I have not tried Federation Commander yet. Some day. I think I read somewhere recently that SFB is the longest running (currently still in production) wargame. That says something.

Dead on point here. SFB is a tactical board game. It is a polar extreme from anything remotely rpg.

That's just sad.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.
