He has a company that I think does distribution as well.  I remember noting that he also does a Game Retailer newsletter.  But the name escapes me at the moment.

I haven't checked the Free RPG Day list of stores because I was living in the metroplex a month ago.  Kansas City or St. Louis, each is quite a drive . . . but . . . must get free stuff . . .  :D

I'm just wondering if I could get away with buying a box from the Free RPG Day website or not.  It seems like they will happily take my money anyway.  I could then set up a lemonade stand outside and give them away.

It does say it will not ship to a PO Box or residential address.  But how do they know it is not a residential address if it is a street address?  Or could I -  errr....  could someone have this shipped to their workplace, even if it is not RPG or bookstore related?

There are ways to find out if an address is within a residential or business zone -- the problem comes when a residence is a business.

Aldo Ghiozzi runs Impressions Advertising, which used to publish GameBuyer, but he sold that to GTS Distribution earlier this year IIRC.  His web site is http://impressionsadv.com/

My job is sending me to Oklahoma City on Free RPG Day, but I should have time to hit a store.  Apparently, my choices are "New World Comics & Games" or "Game Headquarters."  Anybody in that area got an opinion about which is the better store to visit?

Hiya,

my kit arrived this morning.

Nice dice!

Anyone know if the Q-Workshop dice are unique to this, or on general sale please?

Now to have a proper dig thru ... :)

Cheers,
Malc

Last year's Q-Workshop dice were not sold anywhere until earlier this year, so that's 9 or 10 months of exclusivity.  The color and design scheme for last year were black Elvish runes on orange dice.

I can't read Polish, but I can recognize colors.  Wow!  Those are definitely not part of their existing catalog:

Free RPG Day 2009:

Q-Workshop English:

(BTW, I still want one or two of the black-on-orange d8 from last year.  I will trade two to four d12 for them.  I've already bought one set to get the lone d8 that I have, and I'd rather not buy two more sets.)

I can drive west, northwest or east to get to stores.

To the West are one or two vendors known to me.
To the East are five or more stores mostly of the type known as "chain".
But to the Northwest are scattered three distinct stores in separate cities.  This path also is the longest but leads to other sites like Half-Price Books.

To the Northwest!

Good luck on your search sir!  I'm stuck prepping for inventory at work(stoopid necessities!).  I'm hoping one of the other players I told about today will pick up the TLG stuff for me *crosses fingers*.

Yes, the # of stores are down this year.  Last year, we had nearly 400 stores and this year it is nearly 300.  So many stores told us that it was the economy for lack of RPG sales as to their decision not to spend the $65 to participate.

It doesn't look like either of the two who participated last year in my area are doing so this year.

My company, Impressions, handles the event.  We do a lot of work in the industry for game companies and are the ones that gather the publisher commitments and try to get the retailers to sign up.

Aldo

Actually, worldwide it is Impressions, but we use our distributor partners in foreign countries to organize the retailers outside the U.S.

In the UK its our main games distributor, Esdevium Games.
they are charging £50 ($75) for the kits.

I've had many try...and maybe even some who did it, but we have such a huge database of stores that if you don't have a commercial address, store website and confirmation from an actual game distributor that you are a store, then we will not send to you.  I've had folks use them UPS Store type places, but then we just search the net and see multiple businesses at the address and call the phone number.  I'm sure it has happened, but trust me, I make it difficult!  :P

Best,
Aldo

Thanks for stopping by and answering the questions.  Mainly curious if there would have been a cheaper way of purchasing a box of stuff (other than through Ebay) because none of the gamestores in my area are participating this year (whereas last year there were 3).

I called one store this morning and they said that they had signed up but nothing arrived so I don't know if they are just covering themselves or if the package is late.

Tell me the store and I can look it up in case they paid and it did not get sent out.

And I'm sorry but if a store does not join the event then there is no other way except eBay.

Best,
Aldo

Hi,

out of interest, if this is a promotional exercise, why do you include only bricks-and-mortar stores, and not online ones?

Cheers,
Malc
